We will monitor this ever-evolving situation throughout the winter break and provide updates as new information becomes available. Our commitment to ensuring the continuity of learning, while mitigating the spread of COVID-19, continues to guide our decision-making. Littlerock High School, in collaboration with LACOE's Community School Initiative, hosted Mr. Chris Gardner's Permission 2 Dream Campaign through Google Meets. Mr. Gardner lived the life story that inspired the film The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith. Littlerock HS Students listened to a motivational speech by Mr. Gardner, followed by a 20 minute Q and A. Students had fun asking engaging and noteworthy questions. The Antelope Valley Union High School District is proud to announce that students, families, teachers, and staff members from Desert Winds High School have been acknowledged by the California PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Coalition for their ongoing, positive efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the Community Cares acknowledgment process. Desert Winds HS was recognized for its community support during the transition to distance learning ...during the 2019-2020 school year. The California PBIS Coalition has also graciously recognized local Lancaster and Palmdale businesses, including IN-N-OUT Burger and Chick-fil-A, for their support of students and the community as a whole as the pandemic situation continues. IN-N-OUT Burger and Chick-fil-A truly went above and beyond to provide for the families within this district by donating gift cards as rewards for students and staff. Last week Superintendent Dr. David Vierra and his Cabinet toured the classrooms that will welcome students back on Monday. At this time, in accordance with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, we are only able to return students who receive specialized services back to campus in small, stable cohorts limited to no more than 12 students. These students have been personally contacted by a member of our team. We recognize so many of our students are eager to return to school and believe this first step, while small, will pave the way to bring more back once allowed. #AVUHSD #AVFindYourPath

Next week we are excited to welcome back small, stable groups of students who receive specialized instruction. Those families of students identified as eligible to return have already been contacted by our staff. If you have not been contacted, your student will continue to participate in distance learning.
