Today's #ThankfulThursday spotlight: recent graduate of Mission High School and incoming Freshman at @sanfranciscostate, Henddel! Henddel is the winner of our Most Dedicated award as he would commute via public transit for an hour and a half to get support on his college applications. His time and dedication to his future is admirable, more so because it is rooted in a deep sense of commitment to the betterment of his family and their collective success. Thank you Henddel for being a part of our program for the past four years.

This week's #ThankfulThursday shouts out recent Burton High School graduate & UBMS scholar, Lauren. Here are some words from our STEM Education Coordinator, Dr. Chidthachack, about Lauren: "Like many immigrant students across the nation, Lauren faced challenges that her native born peers did not have to. She continue to embrace challenges and overcome barriers. This fall, Lauren is PRINCETON UNIVERSITY bound on a FULL RIDE scholarship to major in Computer Science." Congrats again Lauren! Thank you for being such an outstanding member of UBMS! We can't wait to see all that you do in the future.

Good words for all of us to live by, and an extra special reminder to our students on #MandelaDay. Take time today to learn more about Nelson Mandela and the works he did to help humankind.

As we get closer to the start of the fall semester, we will be shouting out our graduates who are about to embark on a new journey! We are so thankful to have had the chance to work with them so these posts will also be called our #ThankfulThursday series. Our student Clarissa is a Maisin Scholar & the winner of our Social Justice Award. According to our College Advisor Gracee, Clarissa is "deeply passionate about issues of social justice and equity and gives me hope in the future as I see a spark that will ignite social change in our world." Thank you for being a part of our program Clarissa and we wish you all the best in the future.
