"In the study, researchers examined a genital lesion in a patient on treatment for Lyme disease. The lesion was found to contain live spirochetes that could be grown in special culture broth, and sophisticated immunology and molecular techniques revealed that the spirochetes were indeed Borrelia burgdorferi, the agent of Lyme disease. Testing for syphilis spirochetes and other pathogens was negative. The presence of live spirochetes in a genital lesion strongly suggests that sexual transmission of Lyme disease occurs, said Middelveen. We need to do more research to determine the risk of sexual transmission of this syphilis-like organism. #Lyme

"A new study in mice sheds more light on the question of Lyme disease symptoms that persist after a standard course of antibiotic treatment. These findings from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) may lead to more effective treatment for human patients with persistent Lyme disease symptoms The study, published March 28 in Discovery Medicine, is the first to look at triple-drug combination antimicrobials in a mouse model. This is a crucial requirement before human clinical trials can begin." #Lyme

"Now officially serving in her first full term as the state House Health Committee Chairman, Rep. Kathy Rapp is reintroducing legislation (formerly House Bill 174) that would require health insurers to cover treatment plans for Lyme disease or related tick-borne illnesses as prescribed by a patient’s health care practitioner." #Lyme

"Based on descriptions of Darwin’s symptoms as found in his diaries, notebooks and letters, we conclude that Darwin suffered from a complex condition with multisystem symptoms, in which chronic (neuro)borreliosis may have played an important role, possibly in combination with another illness such as lactose intolerance, and complicated by a hypochondriac predisposition. The possible role of chronic (neuro)borreliosis in Darwin’s condition has not been published before, but is... worth to consider." #Lyme https://www.hetnatuurhistorisch.nl//Deinsea_18-2_2018_Komp

"LymeDisease.org has been conducting big data research using patient generated data for over 10 years. We published our first study on Access to Care in 2011 and in 2014 we published our Quality of Life study. (Johnson 2011; Johnson 2014) In 2015, we launched MyLymeData, our patient registry and research platform. With over 12,000 patients enrolled, today, it is the largest observational study of Lyme disease ever conductedand actually one of the largest patient driven regis...tries in the nationfor any disease. We have patients enrolled from every state in the nation and have collected over 2.5 million data points. We are collaborating with researchers from the University of Washington and from UCLAthe UCLA researchers were awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to pursue their research using the data from the registry." #Lyme https://www.lymedisease.org/hhs-lyme-innovation-speech-usi/
