UC Berkeley Food Pantry

We are still looking for more volunteers to join our pantry tech team this summer! Data collection, tracking, and reporting with an emphasis on privacy are becoming increasingly important to the food pantry’s operations. We are working on improving a public facing inventory webapp using Next.js and Tailwind CSS, building out an ordering platform and internal database system and ultimately connecting all of these tools together to create a streamlined and more efficient pantry to better serve our community. And we need YOUR support to make this possible! We are currently seeking skilled volunteers, with the opportunity to apply for paid student positions next academic year. The UCB Basic Needs Center Food Pantry is open for the summer! Open Hours start June 1st: Tuesday 1pm-7pm, Wednesday 7am-11am (new morning hours!), Thursday 5-7pm (new evening hours), and Saturday 11am-1pm. We will be staying on the 1st floor of the MLK Student Union at least through August 7th. Thank you!] A research team, led by Dr. Susana Matias, is conducting a study to learn about the experience of participating in the Berkeley Student Farms and document potential physical and emotional benefits resulting from it. They are asking Cal students to take our 20-minute online survey so that we can better understand students experiences and ...perceptions. Survey participants will have the chance to enter a drawing for the chance to win one of ten $30 gift cards. Any enrolled students at UC Berkeley (18 y or older) can participate. Students do not need to have visited the Berkeley Student Farms in order to complete the survey. This week, as we take a quick break to rejuvenate and reflect on what we're thankful for, we wanted to give a special thank you to @Bankofthewest for their annual support of the UC Berkeley Food Pantry. Their funding is used to purchase produce that is distributed to the Berkeley community including all UC Berkeley students (undergraduate and graduate), staff, visiting scholars, postdocs, and faculty. #PositiveBanking

The #UCBERKELEY Basic Needs Center is so excited to open up its applications for interns and volunteers for the Fall 2020 semester! Interns will receive course credit for working on basic needs projects to help alleviate food, housing, and economic insecurity in the UC Berkeley community and beyond. Most positions will be held completely virtually and a few positions will be in-person with additional training and safety precautions taken. Internship positions are available fo...r the following teams: Basic Needs Center, Branding, CalFRESH, Finance, Food For Thought, Food Pantry, Food Waste & Reduction, Graduate Team, Housing, Outreach, and Programs. Additionally, in-person and virtual volunteer positions are available for the Food Pantry and the Outreach team. Applications are due on Thursday, 9/3 11:59 PM PT.
