Must be available at least 20 hours a week, have transportation to and from the farm and like to work outdoors. This would be a great opportunity for someone who is interested in learning and living on a production mushroom farm. You will be provided a beautiful, clean geodesic dome to live in. Dome includes: wood stove, sink, electricity, bed and furnishings. Outdoor shower and kitchen house provided with hot water on demand. Food can be provided upon discussion as well as opportunity to start a garden or business venture. We are accepting applications for our Farm Share Program starting in March 2021. We are now accepting members for our Farm Share program for the time period of March-May 2021. Our shares include lamb, pork, oyster mushrooms, duck eggs and flowers/herbs all pasture raised. Since the fire there are certain aspects of the farm that we are unable to rebuild. Because of this we are no longer offering chicken as part of the Farm Share. Our shares cost either $20 for a 1/2 share sui...table for a single or couple or a $40 full share better for families. You can pay each week, once a month or for the whole three months at once. Whatever fits your budget. Available meat cuts in the share: Lamb cuts: shanks, leg steaks, shoulder chops, small rib chop, Pork: Regular bacon, cottage bacon, ground pork, sliced ham, pork chops, pork tenderloin, pork spare rib and ham hock. We deliver in Chico once a week for $2 extra each share. Just leave a cooler out and we can drop your share off. We are under Evacuation orders again due to the North Complex Fire. The parents and domestic animals are safe in Chico. Cheetah and I are here and ready to save our property if needed. Until then it is back to work. Oyster mushroom bags are going into the greenhouse and herbs are being bagged for special orders. Farmers still gotta feed people. WE LOVE YOU! To our beloved customers, just a heads up that we won’t be at farmers market tomorrow. Pretty much everything is a little sun whipped around here: egg production is slow, all the flowers are finding a home already, and we are behind in our mushroom production due to all the backhoe and chainsaw work of the last two months to prepare for our new home and getting our solar well online. In addition we are diverting some of our mushroom mass to one of our citizen science endea...vors. Ya! Did you know that in addition to building a farm in the last year we have been doing a non-profit to clean fire-contaminated soils in the burn scar using fungi? We have some promising results and innovative methods that we will be publishing in the fall. This new project examines remediation of Round-up in soil. Stay tuned for our four-part, free webinar series and Butte Remediation website. With the widespread fires yesterday, we couldn’t help but have a few flashbacks to November 2018. I know it seems like a long time ago, but for us, the fire still licks at our heels. We are operating on a fraction of our infrastructure, have a distinct lack of tools, and comfortable places to work in the heat. Our beautiful oaks continue to show fire stress in hotter areas; their bark separating, branches randomly breaking. Turkey Tail Mushroom (Trametes versicolor). With every indication that COVID is going to be a long-haul pandemic, we are working to add more medicinal mushrooms to our program. Turkey tail is one of the most well documented anti-cancer mushrooms; they contain compounds called polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and polysaccharide-K (PSK). PSP and PSK appear to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. PSP in particular demonstrates immune enhancing function. These humble mushrooms are effect...ive against everything from the common cold to hepatitis and even have been shown to be effective against HIV (reverse transcriptase inhibition). Our plan is to tincture this crop via a double extraction. The medicinal properties of this mushroom are water soluble, so half will receive a decoction in hot water and the other will receive a cold water extract with a little ethanol to prevent spoilage. PSP and PSK are destroyed in alcohol concentrations above 30%, so extra care must be taken. Unlike our oyster mushrooms which sprout in a matter of days, these beauties take weeks to grow. This is reflected in the earth tone rainbow of the cap, each ribbon another weeks worth of growth; like rings of a tree.
