The hills of California were not always golden! The majority of our grasslands have been dominated by introduced annual invasive grasses and forbs, such as wild oats and bromes, for hundreds of years, but now a new wave of invaders are entering yellow star thistle, medusahead, and goatgrass, which are causing new problems. Please join UD Davis Plant Ecologist and PhD candidate, Sarah Gaffney, at 7PM on Thursday, June 24th, to learn about these two groups of invasive species and explore the differences and similarities of their ecological role in the grassland and oak savanna plant community, as well as touch on recent research on restoring native grasses to these invaded areas. Happy World Wetlands Day! Did you know that despite only covering about 6% of Earth’s land surface, wetlands are where 40% of plants and animals live and/or breed? They are also hugely important carbon sinks, storing about 35% of terrestrial carbon. Wetlands are among the most threatened ecosystems, disappearing three times faster than forests. Protecting and restoring wetlands is essential for preserving biodiversity and building climate resilience. ... California State Parks is hosting a Wild About Wetlands! livestream from 2-3 p.m. today. Tune in to hear from scientists who are working to preserve and protect wetlands throughout California, and learn tips for actions we can take to care for our local watersheds and the estuaries and ocean downstream. Get the Zoom link here: https://www.worldwetlandsday.org/display-event

We're planning for post fire trail work at Frog Pond Trail, which was hit by the LNU Complex fire. Andrew Fulks went out to reflag sections of the trail that were obscured by burns to prepare for repair crews. Behind the scenes of the prep work is on our YouTube channel. Anyone interested in helping repair the trail can sign up on our website for our next work day!
2020 has been a whirlwind of a year! Through it all, Tuleyome has continued to fight for our places, to share access to them and to expand and protect them. We've made some gains and learned new ways to reach more folks through our educational programs, citizen science and public lands advocacy; as well as "boots on the ground" work including trail building and maintenance, and land stewardship. And, in 2021, we’ll do more, but we can’t do it without you! Please consider investing in our Deep Home Place and become part of the Tuleyome family. You can make a secure one-time or recurring donation here: https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/tuleyome
