It’s not often that I find the time to rehair my own personal bow that I play on. What’s that saying about the cobbler who finally let his kids wear shoes after they wouldn’t stop whining about their feet getting callused? Something like that. Anyway, I include one of these cards with every rehair, so customers can remember when they got a rehair and roughly when they will be due for their next one. This was my own card, and as you can see, I was supposed to rehair my bow back on March 15. I did a silk winding for David Moore today, and I used an element from his Fractal Fingering book to inform the design. This is a visual representation of what he describes as the harmonic nodes being equal distances apart on the bass, while they contain different intervals as you go up the string. With the silk winding, each section is equally spaced, separated by the light gray thread. The red thread is the number of half steps between the harmonic nodes, starting from the nut, going up a minor 3rd, major 3rd, perfect 4th, perfect 5th, and octave. I had wanted to watch this film since I saw the trailer for it about a year ago. It was finally released for a special limited streaming premiere sponsored by Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers. This is such a wonderful documentary, even if you are not into bows. I highly recommend buying a ticket to stream it while it's still available! (If you do, just note that you need to stream it on the same device/browser that you used to purchase the ticket. I messed that up at first!)

I promise to post pictures of bows soon, but first, I had to get in one little reupholstery project. My desk chair was killing my back because it was 1 inch too tall. I reupholstered this shorter chair, added a couple extra layers of foam to the seat, and switched over my rollerblade wheels from my other chair. The beginnings of a German bass bow.

This was a big DIY project I worked on to make a sales counter for my shop. This started as a 1966 Packard Bell stereo console. I pulled out all the stereo component shelving/racks, painted, added a new fabric backing and bigger casters, installed pull-out shelving and a drawer, and installed this wonderful live edge Acacia wood butcher block countertop. @ Pasadena, California
