Rainwater harvesting helps conserve San Diego’s natural resources, prevent pollution, and save money by providing free water for use in gardens and landscapes. Just 1 of rain yields 600 gallons per 1000 sq. ft. of roof space. That's a lot of free, fresh water for San Diegans to capture and help their plants thrive! @CountyOfSanDiego is providing Unincorporated County residents a rain barrel for as low as $25. All residents are eligible for the $35 rain barrel rebate from the Metropolitan Water District’s SoCal WaterSmart program allowing them to pay just $55 per rain barrel on up to 2 rain barrels per household. Solana Center is hosting rain barrel pick-up events in Bonita (order deadline 1/24), Lakeside (order deadline 1/31), and their Encinitas location. Order yours today at solanacenter.org/rain-barrels.

Field Trips at Wild Willow Farm are a great way to connect your students to nature, their food, and the content you're learning in class. Our hands-on 2-3 hour field trips are structured with 2-4 stations that students rotate through. We are proud to provide a 1:10-15 ratio with our education staff. Common activities include an animal visit (worms, chickens, and goats), compost lessons, farm tasks, and sensory farm tour and vegetable tasting, and a nature walk on the trails. We are also able to customize your field trip to connect to what you are learning in school. To find more information and book your field trip, visit www.wildwillowfarm.org/field-trips.
