A message from Mayor Sampayan : I would like to respond to the comments that the City Council and I are deaf to the uptick in violent crime. Since mid-spring, ...with the rise in violence, I have asked the Chief of Police, City Manager, State Senator Dodd to have the California Highway Patrol assist us in patrolling our community. The VPD did this in the mid-1990s when crime began to surge. There was an immediate effect and violent crime dropped dramatically. We are currently putting together plans to combat the violence. There will be personnel shifts in the PD to immediately put more officers on the street. Chief Williams will be asking the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force to assist us. We will be meeting with neighborhood groups, the faith community, community leaders to ask that they help us with community outreach in preventing these tragedies by working together to bring peace. Also, since the beginning of summer when the sideshows were becoming popular in Vallejo, I asked the Police Chief to form a task force to enforce traffic laws involving sideshows. The VPD, CHP, and allied law enforcement agencies have participated in crackdowns on illegal sideshows. There have been numerous arrests, vehicles impounded and weapons confiscated. The enforcement activity is a message to those violators that this activity will not be tolerated and that violations of any laws will be enforced. This task force is available to respond to any report of sideshows. Lastly, I’m asking the community to help. If you have information that can bring peace to Vallejo, please share it. We encourage you to: Be sure to thoroughly wash all fresh fruits and vegetables. Practice social distancing, do not form lines and shop quickly to allow others space. Wash your hands thoroughly and often for at least 20 seconds. If you are sick, stay home and ask a friend or family member to pick things up for you instead. Bee breathing bee fact Even though bees don’t have nostrils, lungs or gills, they breathe through 10 pairs of valves on their body. These valves, called spiracl...es, are located on the sides of their body; three pairs on the thorax, six on the abdomen and one pair hidden within the sting chamber. Though it may appear that the bee is panting, this motion is actually the bee drawing in air through it’s spiracles which is then vacuumed into a complex structure of tracheae and air sacs. Bees can suffocate from the use of common pesticides in gardens as it coats a bee’s body and blocks off their vents, making them unable to draw oxygen. Lets care for the bees and make clean, green choices.
