Master Instructor Trainer (Level II), Cecilia Sicangco Ibarrola was a former principal dancer of Ballet Philippines, then became the Philippines’s first certified Pilates teacher in 1995. She feels fortunate to have done her apprenticeship in New York under the close guidance of Romana Kryzanowska. Since then she annually attends continuing professional education seminars and conferences with what is now known as Romana’s Pilates. With her highest respect for the system as developed by Joseph Pilates, she is honored to be part of the preservation of the practice, imparting her knowledge of the body to better help her clients. In the Philippines, Cecilia owns and runs Integrated Body Arts Pilates Studio, a certification Center for the Romana’s Pilates Instructor Training Program and is a fully equipped Pilates studio offering high quality training to all clients and trainees. www.ibapilates.com MICHAEL LEVY @michael Levy Master Instructor Trainer (Level II), Michael Levy has both a B.F.A & M.F.A in Dance. He became a student of Romana Kryzanowska and a Pilates teacher in the late 1980’s. For 21 of those years, he owned and operated one of the first fully equipped Pilates Studios in Southern California where he hosted Romana on numerous visits. He was her frequent demonstrator, assistant and close personal friend. He is one of only three men featured in the DVD Romana on Pilates, the Legacy Edition. Michael was honored to be asked to give the eulogy at Romana’s Memorial service at Saint Patricks Cathedral in NYC. www.michaellevypilates.com ROXANE RICHARDS-HUANG Roxane Richards HUANG Master Instructor Trainer (Level II), Roxane Richards Huang has a M.A. from New York University in Performance and Choreography in Dance, and a B.S in Dance from Shenandoah University. She is a Graduate from the Swedish Massage Institute in New York City as a Licensed Massage Therapist. Roxane started Pilates in 1988, and in 1989 became a certified Pilates Instructor. Roxane was asked to teach alongside Romana and her daughter, Sari Mejia-Santo, at Drago's Gym in NYC from 1989 to 1998. She became one of the very first handpicked Teacher Trainers chosen by Romana Kryzanowska, a direct disciple of Joseph Pilates. Roxane also worked at JRW Physical Therapy during this time in New York City teaching both Pilates and working as a LMT where she worked with a wide range of injuries and disabilities. Roxane moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1998, where she continues to teach with Romana’s Pilates. She has been running her own Pilates studio since 2003 in Vancouver, Washington, near Portland, Oregon. Romana’s Pilates Global Conference is a little over a month away! For the next couple of weeks we will be introducing our incredible TEAM of Presenters and sh...aring their journeys. Today we would like to introduce our LEVEL I, Grand Master Teacher Trainers: SARI MEJIA SANTO @Sari Mejia Santo Grandmaster Instructor Trainer (Level I) Next to her mother Romana, she is the most acclaimed Pilates instructor of true Pilates. Sari also worked directly with Joe and Clara Pilates. When Sari was nine years old, she got rheumatic fever that caused many physical complications and ultimately led her into a plaster cast for 7-9 months. Even though the family was still in Peru, Romana was able to help her child rebuild her strength and get even stronger than ever. Sari also shares her mother’s life long passion for teaching others the original true Pilates method. After being introduced to Pilates through her alignment, Sari acquired a talent for it. She first admired it, because it had helped her so much and then she saw what she could do to help other people physically and mentally. She was young when she came to the US and started to work at the Pilates studio with the guidance of Uncle Joe and Clara, and taught the method at her mother’s side consistently since she was in her teens. Sari continues to travel all over the world, teaching instructors and clients in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and some German! www.romanaspilates.com JUANITA LOPEZ Grandmaster Instructor Trainer (Level I) Juanita Lopez, Level I instructor, began her studies with Romana Kryzanowska in the summer of 1988. Prior to that she had been a professional ballet dancer and taught at many well known ballet schools in the Chicago area. Juanita was also on the faculty of Northwestern University where she taught ballet and eventually the Pilates mat work. In 1993, at the request of Romana and her daughter Sari, Juanita began teaching seminars in the training program that was supervised by Romana. She has since taught throughout the United States and Europe and at all the International Conferences of Romana's Pilates. Juanita currently has a private practice and teaches at Pilates Connection in Evanston, IL She continues to work closely with Sari and Daria, Romana's granddaughter who leads the Romana's Pilates organization. CYNTHIA LOCHARD Cynthia Lochard's Pilates Method Studio Grandmaster Instructor Trainer (Level I) Born in New York City, Cynthia began learning The Pilates Method in 1976, as a young dancer with the New York City Ballet. During this time she practiced Pilates at Joseph Pilates’ studio with Romana. By the end of 1987, Cynthia moved to Sydney and from 1990-1992, she continued her dance career with the Sydney Dance Company and later with Bangarra Dance Theatre. In 1994, she returned to New York to study as an instructor under the guidance of her teacher and mentor Romana Kryzanowska, one of the last remaining disciples of Joseph H. Pilates. Returning to Sydney later that year as a certified instructor of the true Pilates method, Cynthia opened The Pilates Method Studio and Training Centre in Surry Hills, Sydney Australia. Cynthia began her teacher training in 1998 and in 2009, Cynthia became one of only four Grandmasters.
