TRU FC would like to thank Eric Strecker for his time and dedication to our board. Eric served as Vice President, member of the DOC Committee and the fundraiser committee. We will miss Eric's creativity, insight, and sense of humor! We would also like to welcome our newest board member, Jenny Suh, who was already instrumental in guiding us through our first-annual fundraiser back in Winter of 2020 as well as producing our monthly newsletters. Jenny will serve on our fundraiser and tournament committees.

Over Halloween weekend, we had 15 teams compete in the 4v4 tournament in Reno. It was a fun-time for all including parents that had to watch from a "safe distance" from the field. We saw some fantastic style of play and great results: 06 Girls: 1st and 2nd place 07 Girls: 1st and 2nd place... 08 Boys: 2nd place 09 Boys: 2nd place 10 boys: 2nd place Also a strong showing from the 08 girls, 09 girls, 10 girls, and 11 boys. Thank you to all the volunteer coaches who stepped up to make it a great time for all. Some pictures attached, more to come on our monthly newsletter.

Congratulations to our Athlete of the Month (sponsored by #kellybrotherspainting), Ella Hoyer! My home is being mistreated and no one is doing anything about it. I will not stand for it. When Ella Hoyer (Girls ‘07) saw her beloved Donner Lake docks being ruined with trash, she decided she needed to turn her anger and disappointment into action. With the help of her sister, Olivia (Girls ‘09), she began putting things into motion. First, she called Truckee’s Mayor, Dave... Polivy, and asked what could be done about this abundance of trash. Mayor Polivy was sympathetic to Ella’s cause, but he explained that, because there was no Truckee Parks and Rec money budgeted for this, the town couldn’t help. However, he suggested she get in touch with Court Leve, a local photographer and activist with Tahoe Truckee Litter Group. Together Ella, Olivia, and Court created a two-minute video explaining why we need to protect our unique environment, and Ella’s action plan to make it happen. Her idea is simple, place a plaque on each of Donner’s 37 piers reminding visitors to help keep Donner Lake beautiful and trash-free. Ella’s team created a GoFundMe page that has already raised more than $11,000. In addition to the signage, Ella’s team put together groups of volunteers to clean up the docks and shoreline on a regular, rotating basis. Ella’s efforts were noticed by Colin West, founder of the environmental non-profit, Clean Up the Lake. This organization was already working to remove trash from Lake Tahoe. When West heard about the GoFundMe, he offered to partner with Ella by committing to clean up underneath the surface of Donner Lake. His scuba team removed over 3300 pounds of trash! TRU FC will support the Hoyer sisters by picking up trash at the Donner docks as an upcoming community volunteer project. Ella and Olivia are the future of grassroots environmentalism in Truckee, and we are proud to have them representing TRU FC.
