The Travel Town Foundation depends on volunteers to help with gardening, recycling and restoration. While Travel town was closed for covid a group of dedicated volunteers continued to work on restoration. Next time you are in the park look out for the 3025 and it's new paint along with the SMV 1000 and the 664. We couldn't do our work without these amazing volunteers. #thankyou #volunteersaretheheartandsoul
The Foundation is pleased to announce that the Train Ride will be open this weekend. Follow social distancing guidelines and wear your mask. MORE WHISTLE STOPS have been added to our Whistle Stop Tour Program! Learn about the trains at Travel Town by scanning the QR codes on the different pieces of equipment. Renew those memberships! Sandy will be out in front of the Gift shop on Saturday, and we are still having a Track Gang Soda special! Ask her for details. Hope to see you there.--ALL ABOARD!!

This weeks worth of work revealed black and burgundy finished on the tender of the Mariposa! We have the upper lip and the edge of the running board to prime and paint in gold, so if you’d like to come out and help, let us know. The tim will be hand painted, and we are willing to TRAIN!

There’s a lot happening in the world right now like there was in 1918 when this Heisler Locomotive was built. It was originally used to haul materials for a dam used for a water supply for San Francisco. At Travel Town since 1957, it serves as a reminder on today’s spring equinox to keep working toward something positive (and to keep washing your hands) . . .... #traveltown #griffithpark #heislerlocomotive #thingstodoinla #locomotive #railroadhistory See more
Due to a Mayoral Directive, Travel Town Museum will be closed to the public through March 31, 2020. Please call (323) 662-5874 if you have any questions. With growing health concerns, it’s been decided in everyone’s best interest to close Travel Town to the public until the end of the month of March . If anyone had planned tours or events during the time of this closure, keep an eye and ear out for our communication about them... . Thank you for understanding and hoping everyone the best .
#didyouknow this half-pink, half-green train was originally red as it was once part of Los Angeles’ Red Car transit system? It was donated to Travel Town after its makeover and has become a clear photo favorite to our visitors . . . #traveltown #locomotive #griffithpark #railway #railhistory #thingstodoinla #railroad #losangeles #losangeleshistory #laredcar #pacificelectric #railhistory @ Travel Town Museum Foundation

Flashback to 1972, when Mama Cass came to Travel Town to shoot her album art for The Road Is No Place For A Lady. She is picture in front of the M-177 and the Union Pacific Dining Car #3669. It was the fifth and final studio album released by Cass Elliot. @ Travel Town Museum Foundation
We have started a new donation site! Want to contribute specifically for our 2020-2021 Diner #369 restoration project? Click the link to help! https://traveltown.networkforgood.com//89800-union-pacific
Happy New Year from Travel Town! This year we will be celebrating the 99th birthday of the Union Pacific Dining Car #3669 by restoring it to its former glory. Our volunteers are already hard at work replacing the windows. We will also be restoring the beautiful mahogany throughout the dining car since it accumulated many layers of paint during its years in service. Keep on the lookout for upcoming fundraisers and volunteer orientations. We will be sure to share more videos and photos of our progress.
