Trailer Tip When unhooking the trailer from the tow vehicle, place wheel chocks (sturdy, wedge-shaped blocks) in front of and behind the trailer’s tires to ensure the trailer doesn’t roll away when it is released from the tow vehicle.

How to Determine the Appropriate Size Drop Hitch for Your Vehicle and Trailer Determining how much of a drop or raised hitch you need is an important part of pulling your trailer safely. Towing a level trailer behind you is a vital part in how the trailer will pull behind the vehicle. Finding the appropriate measurement is quick and easy to do! Start by measuring from the ground to the top inside point on your receiver. This will give you your first measurement. Then, level o...ut your trailer using a small handheld level and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. This will give you your second measurement. Next, subtract your first measurement from your second measurement. If you answer is negative you need a drop hitch for that amount, and if your answer is positive you need a raised hitch for that amount. If you have more than one vehicle that regularly pulls the trailer, it would be a great idea to invest in an adjustable hitch. This will allow quick and easy adjustment depending on the weight inside of the trailer and the height of the tow vehicle. Happy towing!
Trailer Breakaway System: What is it? Do I have to have one? A trailer breakaway system is a legal requirement for a trailer to have when equipped with trailer brakes. If the trailer was ever to disconnect from the tow vehicle while driving, the trailer breakaway pin would be pulled out of the breakaway switch. This causes the trailer brakes to activate, stopping the trailer in the event of an emergency and hopefully preventing the trailer from causing damage or harm. A few i...tems to keep in mind: -This is not a parking brake -The 12v battery that operates the trailer brakes is only designed to hold a 15 minute usage charge once the pin is pulled out of the breakaway switch -When the trailer is stationary and plugged into your vehicle, do not pull the breakaway pin. This can cause the 12v battery to overwork itself due to charging and operating at the same time, potentially resulting in overheating. -Always check state laws on the requirements of trailer breakaway systems and the quantity of brakes you need on tandem axle trailers.
