"I've got awareness and a mask for protection." -Donald, 6th Grade. Happy World Radio Day! Early in the pandemic, the government of Tanzania did not institute a lockdown as a COVID-19 safety precaution and there was little information on using masks as protection against the virus. GO Campaign provided a grant to a partner in Tanzania that not only provided 500 children with masks and sanitizer, food for 100 young mothers and their children, but also launched a public radio ...program called "Stand Strong Against Corona’’, which raised awareness about COVID-19, dispel myths about the virus, and provide tutoring support for primary school children. This is Donald. He is 11 years old and a 6th grade student at Moshi Primary School. When his school closed due to COVID -19, Donald stayed at home. According to Donald, it was not easy to go anywhere or visit people. He kept himself busy by sweeping and cleaning his house. He listened to FEL’s radio program which helped him with his studies and taught him how to keep himself safe from COVID-19. It's International Day of Women and Girls in Science! In 2018, GO Campaign provided 368 teen girls with STEM support incorporating science, technology, engineering and math activities into the academic years at 4 locations throughout Los Angeles. GO also helped sponsor the Mentor to Inspire Conference, where participants from all 4 EmpowHer Academies come together for a full day of mentoring, speakers, hands on STEM experiences and panel discussions. All of the girls had the... opportunity to interact and learn from over 50 professional women from different careers and disciplines. In 2020, thanks to a generous donor, GO Campaign provided funding to support the creation of home learning guides during and beyond Covid-19 school closures. The many grassroots groups using the guides during the pandemic include Cheza Cheza, pictured here, empowering youth through education and dance in Kibera, the largest slum community in Africa. Learning guides were shared free of cost to communities in need. The guides have been translated into Hausa, Vietnamese, Urdu, Spanish, Kiswahili, and Thai and reached 21,800 teachers and caregivers and 135,000 youth in Kenya, Argentina, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
