Enjoy the editorial published today from our CEO, Cameron Curry. "This lawsuit was motivated and launched for one reason alone: to keep students and their learning at the center of all we do. When adults in the room consider their needs over what’s best for students in public education, the fundamental rights of citizens are in jeopardy and none of us should sit silently by just watching it happen" https://www.foxandhoundsdaily.com//beacon-of-hope-non-cla/
Public service is noble and those that take on the task to make the world a better place are valued and appreciated. Knowing that an election is upcoming, please be informed about the candidates and get out and vote. I applaud the Governor wanting to see that schools are reopened with the safety of everyone at the forefront of this initiative. Providing schools $450 per student is a starting point and this collective $2 billion dollar investment in public education is needed and we wait to see the details of his plan. Most likely charter schools offering independent study will not be funded as the Governor has a track record of not supporting these public schools. Add to that, we are ...still dealing with the $10 million dollar shortfall in loss of State funding due to his policies. With our court case coming in late January or early February, we do anticipate winning our case and having the State forced to value our students at the same level as traditional school districts in funding. We will continue to work with our parents in planning, educating, and helping all of our students achieve success. We do not take lightly our obligation to provide new content, grading, and daily engagement with teachers at The Classical Academies. 2020 has handed us curveballs and roadblocks. It has been our collective commitment to quality and practicing excellence that has seen us rise. I could not be more grateful to our community as we expect a great new year together! Cameron Curry Chief Executive Officer
"The team at The Classical Academies inspires and challenges me everyday. Their collective enthusiasm, passion, and drive to make great things happen for students is admirable and honorable. This team of people has sacrificed so much to ensure that students think, communicate, and achieve and our community is better for it as a result! Great people serving others sets the example, and their accomplishments are a testament to what committed to quality and practicing excellence... looks like!" Thank you San Diego Voyager Magazine for featuring one of our students, Akeelah Duffy! http://sdvoyager.com//meet-akeelah-duffy-north-county-ac/
Thank you to the Escondido Times-Advocate for sharing the news story about the great work we’re accomplishing for students at The Classical Academies. The retro picture of our CEO, Cameron Curry, is fun too. https://www.times-advocate.com//parents-are-primary-in-t/
We love seeing the success of our students being featured in local media. Congratulations Liv Stone at Classical Academy High School.

The San Diego Union Tribune posted a new story detailing how the pandemic has accelerated enrollment declines at many school districts. When students haven’t been served well they have clamored for spots in programs offering dynamic independent study. The article mentions our CEO detailing how charter school advocates say student movement and competition aren’t bad. Frankly, this was and still is an opportunity for traditional schools ... to really question their overall o...perations, and if they really want students to stay, how can they be more innovative and how can they really adapt to what parents say their children need, said Cameron Curry, CEO of Classical Academies, a North County charter school network whose enrollment is up by 1,200 students, with another 1,100 on a wait list. With this surge of enrollment at our schools, and with the state purposely withholding educational dollars for these students, has led us to sue the State of California and Governor Gavin Newsom to make it right.
Thank you Escondido Times-Advocate for covering our lawsuit against the State of California. Schools that are best serving families in a time of unprecedented challenges are being left behind by the state, said Cameron Curry, CEO of The Classical Academies. He suggests that the shortfall approved by state legislators was very intentional because it aligns with the desires of teachers’ unions and traditional educational programs. But he says, In a year where every school... is a non-classroom-based school, how can California justify not fully funding the education of students enrolled in a non-classroom-based program? https://www.times-advocate.com//lawsuit-versus-newsom-sta/
Thank you Lance Izumi, director of the Center for Education at the Pacific Research Institute. Schools that are best serving families in a time of unprecedented challenges are being left behind by the state, warns Cameron Curry, CEO of Classical Academies. In a year where every school is a non-classroom-based school, how can California justify not fully funding the education of students enrolled in a non-classroom based program?
So maybe you have heard? The Classical Academies are the lead plaintiff suing the State of California to secure funding for all of our new students. The legislature passed legislation that the governor signed specifically earmarking funding would not be coming to charter schools offered independent study. Knowing that the California constitution guarantees educational dollars for every student attending a public school, we had to step up and ask the courts to get involved.... When adults in the room make decisions that benefit adults, it’s time well spent reminding them that public education is only here to serve students. Cameron Curry Chief Executive Officer
There are five days remaining to help fund teachers, technology, and curriculum. This week an anonymous donor will double your donation by matching every dollar donated, up to $10K. As The Classical Academies welcomed new students during the pandemic, Governor Gavin Newsom refused to cover the expense of new students in charter schools offering independent study. With just five days remaining in the campaign, your donation will help cover the cost of hiring and training new t...eachers, purchasing curriculum, new technology, and securing new software and licenses for new students. Your tax-deductible donation will help! Let's close the gap with a donor match! https://givebutter.com/rise/
The Classical Academies is a group of charter schools with seven campuses across San Diego County, which offers both online and in-person instruction. Its enrollment has grown by 26 percent since the pandemic and would have grown by twice as much, but the schools had to cap enrollment, said CEO Cameron Curry. Among those families enrolling, a much higher percentage live in poverty than those who normally apply. The percentage of students who receive free or reduced price lunch has grown by 19 percent with the addition of the new crop of students, said Curry. Incidentally, The Classical Academies won’t receive funding for those students, which is why Curry had to cap enrollment. The state, which funds public schools, decided it would not pay for growing enrollment at non-classroom-based schools like The Classical Academies.
