Poem by Jack Kerouac and drawing by Carolyn Cassady. The poem is about Neal’s lawsuit against the Southern Pacific when he broke his ankle on the job. Arthur and Kit kept The Beats alive in the 1970s and the 1980s when many books were falling out of print and interest was waning. I remember buying my own copy of this very poster directly from them via mail order around that time and that copy is one of the most photographed items hanging framed on a wall of The Beat Museum since we opened in 2003. This is a duplicate that was donated to us a number of years ago. 14 x 22 You’ll want to frame this and have it on your wall! One of my favorite movies on Jack Kerouac that tells a magnificent story on the SPIRIT of Jack Kerouac. Don't miss this movie! 4). WHO OWNS JACK KEROUAC a film by Jack Shea on DVD. Lot # 21 ~ STARTING THIS AUCTION NOW ~ Live on The Beat Museum’s Facebook Page * Vanity of Duluoz 1st edition 1968 hardcover Coward-McCann... Cloth Spine First Edition. First Printing. The inside of the book is in great shape, no marks, no names, no prices written in, original price on DJ Not price clipped, top & bottom of the spine a little worn (jacket all in one piece) code 6801 implies dust jacket was printed in January of 1968 first printing of the jacket as well as first of the book, all the printing on the jacket is bright & not sun faded in any way (original price $5.50). Subtitled "An Adventurous Education, 1935-1946," Vanity of Duluoz is a key volume in Jack Kerouac's lifework, the series of autobiographical novels he referred to as The Legend of Duluoz. With the same tender humor and intoxicating wordplay he brought to his masterpieces On the Road and The Dharma Bums, Kerouac takes his alter ego from the football fields of small-town New England to the playing fields and classrooms of Horace Mann and Columbia, out to sea on a merchant freighter plying the sub-infested waters of the North Atlantic during World War II, and back to New York, where his friends are the writers who would one day become known as the Beat Generation and where he published his first novel. Written in 1967 from the vantage point ot the burgeoning psychedelic sixties, Vanity of Duluoz gives a fascinating portrait of the young Kerouac, dedicated and disciplined in his determination from an early age to be an important American writer.
