"Mama's Babies," by Oakland filmmaker Adrian L. Burrell is an intimate portrait of a woman who escapes Jim Crow Louisiana and becomes the matriarch of over 300 descendants in Oakland. This moving story was made with Burrell's intimate footage and additional historical images from the collections of the African American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO). A tireless and dedicated Bethune sought solutions to pressing social issues of the day.
