The end of September marks the start of fall. Enrich your meals with this season’s fruits and vegetables! In addition to grocery stores, you can get locally grown fruits and vegetables at the farmers’ market. Ask your WIC office about Farmers’ Market checks. The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is offered June to November. Fruits and vegetables listed here may become available at different times in the season. Plan ahead. Update on WIC Farmers Market coupons: We currently have 70 booklets left. If you have not picked up this year please do so. Call our office first and let them know you are there to pick up. Remember, you can use these coupons until the end of October. The Yuba City Farmers Market is open until the end of October. Please spread the word and or share. Due to the unforseen circumstances we were unable to give out all at the farmers market. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Information from the Census helps decide how billions of federal dollars are spent in California. Not being counted could mean less money for emergency services, health care, food assistance programs, schools, and early childhood and childcare services. Not being counted could also mean fewer people to represent your community in Congress. Be counted today! my2020census.gov... ¡Sea contado hoy! 2020census.gov/es #CaliforniaWIC #MyWICCard #WIC #HagaseContar #CuentaConmigo #saludpública

The first week in August is known around the globe as World Breastfeeding Week. The second, third and fourth weeks in the month of August are set aside to increase awareness of the cultural inequities for women of color, ethnicity and race. In 2020, the theme for National Breastfeeding Month is Many Voices United which amplifies that all women need to be encouraged, supported and celebrated when breastfeeding. August 9-15th is recognized as Native Breastfeeding Week and ad...dresses the inequities and injustice towards indigenous native women and their abilities to practice their roles in the communities they descend from. August 16-24th recognizes Asian and Pacific Islanders and strives to normalize breastfeeding in those communities. The last week in August, the 25-31st is Black Breastfeeding Week, the purpose of which is to reach out to black women and families to reduce social barriers and destigmatize breastfeeding. The purpose of observing National Breastfeeding Month is summarized best by Native Jasha Lyons Echo-Hawk, who honors not only her indigenous roots, but addresses the importance of supporting breastfeeding for all people: it seems to be treated like a privilege and not a sovereign right regardless of whether you’re indigenous or not. Breastfeeding: Anytime. Anywhere. On Demand. Until We Are Done. See more
