What happens when two organizations work together?! Amazing things! Today St. Paul’s PACE and Serving Seniors partnered up to provide vaccinations for one of their supportive housing communities in downtown. Seventy seniors signed up and were thrilled to get the shot since many of them had challenges accessing the vaccine on their own. We are so thankful for this partnership!

We are so excited about our new partnership with the San Diego Humane Society! Thanks to this wonderful organization, our furriest PACE "participants" will never go hungry. Each month, the Human Society will donate dog and cat food for our PACE participants' pets. Thank you to Quinn from the SD Humane Society and Linda Curry from St. Paul's PACE San Diego for making this happen for all of our PACE sites!

At 104 years young, Ibrahim, our oldest and wisest PACE participant, got his COVID-19 vaccine last week, saying he was "very happy" to get the shot. Congratulations, Ibrahim!! When asked the secret to a long and happy life, Ibrahim said, "I am active. I've played sports all my life. Even today, I exercised at home by moving my arms, my muscles, and my joints. And I eat lots of vegetables and salad."

Safety first isn’t a new concept around here, but St. Paul’s PACE takes it very seriously! To ensure the safety of our seniors and staff, St. Paul’s continues to test regularly, offer vaccination clinics, and provide the proper PPE.

This week is National Activity Professional Week, and here at St. Paul's, we don't know what we would do without our Activity Coordinators who work so hard to bring joy and purpose to our residents' lives. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, our activity departments continue to come up with creative ways to keep residents active and entertained. Thank you to all of those who serve seniors in this very important way! We appreciate you <3 *Please note, some of these photos were taken pre-COVID*

Many residents and staff members felt proud to get the vaccine and take the first steps toward beating this virus. Overall, today the vaccine was administered to 45 residents and 95 staff members. We LOVE bear hugs! Thanks to a few amazing friends of St. Paul's, our seniors and day care kiddos have received adorable teddy bears this holiday season. During a time when we can't give out hugs ourselves, it means so much to be able to gift someone with a giant "bear hug." A special thank you to Patty, Julie, Chris, and Jason for collecting more than 400 teddy bears to distribute!

September is #NationalPACEMonth, which is an annual opportunity to celebrate the work of PACE staff and increase awareness of the benefits of the PACE program a...nd all that it provides to seniors. Our PACE staff always works hard and is dedicated to serving our participants. Still, more than ever, they have stepped up, and shown diligence, determination, dedication, and have been exceptional throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been flexible and have jumped right in as we've adjusted the way we run our program, and as we've implemented several new tactics and services to support our seniors. In honor of them, we created this video. We appreciate you, St. Paul's PACE team! @CalPACE National PACE Association

On Friday, in honor of #NationalSeniorCitizensDay, 129 of our St. Paul's PACE participants across 5 communities received a hot meal and other goodies. The meals... and activity books were provided by the President of the Bike Buddies Cycling Club, Mark Allan, who has also served on our Board of Directors for over 20 years, and his wife, Maria. They are very committed to the mission of St. Paul's. St. Paul's staff and members of the bike club prepared bags which included a meal, activity books, and other goodies, which got hand-delivered Friday afternoon. These seniors who received meals have been isolated in their apartments during COVID-19 and were formerly homeless, and now are served by St. Paul’s PACE and have a safe place to live. These seniors were so thankful for the generosity of Mark and his fellow bike club members.

During COVID-19, visits with loved ones while they are hospitalized or in a skilled nursing facility have been suspended. This lack of real-time patient support..., comfort, and advocacy is challenging for everyone. However, it is possible to keep in touch and to remain informed with just some additional planning so that you can support and advocate for your loved ones. See more
