In a recent post, I mentioned that rattlesnakes and other venomous snakes save lives, and a gentleman responded with this valid question: Excuse my ignorance, ...but how does a rattlesnake save a human life? This was my reply: Excellent question! Snakes (harmless and venomous) save lives by consuming rodents that act as vectors for a variety of diseases like Hantavirus, Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, tularemia, and about a dozen others, including the plague. They also prevent house fires by eating rats that chew on wiring. (Surprisingly, this is a big problem in some parts of the country.) Snakes prevent the decimation of our food crops by controlling rodent populations, and various venoms and their components are known to have medicinal properties that can treat conditions ranging from Alzheimer's disease to cancer, strokes and Multiple Sclerosis. Copperhead venom prevents blood clots and keeps cancer cells from sticking together. Cobra venom is being used to treat Parkinson’s disease. Snake venom saves far more lives each year than it takes, while people kill far more snakes than snakes kill people. Coincidentally, rattlesnake venom, properly processed, is the cure for rattlesnake bites. In this country, fewer than five people die from snakebite each year, often because they don't seek treatment, whereas, hundreds of thousands of harmless and beneficial snakes are killed out of ignorance or fear, on highways, by pesticide use and habitat destruction. Snakes don’t need humans, but humans need snakes. Be nice to them! Uncle Dave

This is probably a long shot.. but we are up on Sicard and had stuff in our Explorer. It looks as if someone broke in and took my sons Spider-Man treasure chest..... it had over $300.00 dollars, our past dogs name tag(Gunner) and all his knickknacks from the past couple years. If anyone sees a random Spider-Man chest(because they probably took the money and threw it out) please let me know. He’s mainly heartbroken over the dog tag. See more

Disclaimer...Not the same livestock show & fair cancellation notice we have all been reading... Lets start a new path and demonstrate that it can be done... Yub...a-Sutter Fair Status Update - 5-27-20 Annual Fair Decision - Undetermined Jr. Livestock Show & Sale - Approved The Yuba-Sutter Fair Board of Directors met on Tuesday evening to determine the status of the 2020 Yuba-Sutter Fair amid the current pandemic. The board postponed the decision in light of CA Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement on Tuesday afternoon that theme parks may be included in Stage 3 of the state’s re-opening plan in which California is progressing towards rapidly. The board felt it would be prudent to delay the decision to allow the fair staff time to communicate with local and state officials and fully understand how yesterday’s announcement from the Governor may impact the guidance regarding mass gatherings on fairgrounds. The Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, June 10 to officially determine the status of the 2020 Yuba-Sutter Fair. Despite, the postponement of the annual fair decision, the board did approve to continue to move forward with the Jr. Livestock Show & Sale. This decision was based on guidance and approval through collaboration with our local health officials. We are extremely excited to provide the opportunity for our area’s youth to exhibit and sell their 4-H and FFA Livestock projects as we realize the essential benefits that are derived from their experience of raising livestock, said Dave Dillabo, CEO of the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds. Dillabo added, The fair board and staff will continue to work closely and cooperatively with our local health department and state officials to promote a safe and healthy environment for all of the attendees during the Jr. Livestock Show event.
