Spreckels Theatre Company was recently honored by the Marquee Theatre Journalists Association Awards during their online awards announcement on October 28, 2020..., receiving 30 nominations and winning in 11 of the 18 award categories. Spreckels is truly honored and grateful to the Marquee Journalists for this recognition. But we are also just really grateful that the MTJA went ahead with the awards. We all know this past year has been dreadful. But looking at the list of shows and nominees, not only from Spreckels, but from all the theaters, was a reminder that we were all doing some really great work before COVID hit. Theaters are under assault on so many fronts: COVID, fires, financial distress (enormously exacerbated by AB2257-formerly AB5), that it can sometimes be hard to see the light ahead. But the light is there, even if it’s only a little pilot light, waiting for us. We need to believe that the universe loves artists and will keep it all alive until we can resume our work. Congratulations to our Spreckels nominees and winners, to all the nominated artists from other theaters, and to all those theater people out there who justkeepgoing. Spreckels nominations and wins (with asterisk) are listed below. Sending out nothing but love, everyone. We miss you all more than you know. Hi Everyone! Here's something to wake up all that awesome talent you've been holding in all these weeks. The City of Rohnert Park Community Services (AKA my boss, Cindy Bagley), is organizing a super fun event. It’s National Karaoke Week and we are celebrating virtually with the Community. I am wondering if any of you would like to record a virtual karaoke performance and send it to me either via FB messenger, text or email. Please do not post it on Facebook. We would like to... use them on our Comm. Serv. Facebook page to engage and entertain the community. If you could get me something by Thursday, that would be amazing. Any song is fine! We pay the rights to all music. Thanks so much! I can't wait to hear all of you sing again. I miss you terribly. Here is my email: [email protected] See more

So I am back in the theater! Well, I never completely left, to be honest. But I get to start on the BIG PROJECT. What, you ask, might that be? The complete overhaul of our costume loft. I am including photos here of what it looked like yesterday when I began. And this was after Elizabeth Bazzano cleared out about 2/3 of the props which now live in our new prop room. She did this before the pandemic hit and she had to stay home. Anyway, here is what I am facing. Yesterday and ...today were all about working on hats. They are not finished, but definitely improved. I am really enjoying this work! No, that was not sarcastic...I genuinely love cleaning and organizing. Need to buy racks and bins, hang new pipe...lots of stuff. And then we can start on the unbelievably generous donation of Pam Enz's costume stock! We are thrilled and unspeakably grateful. Gail has been working on emptying the box office (and stacks of papers), which is also being redone by Mr. Eddy Hansen when he gets back in town. (Yes, we are masked and practicing distancing.) Soooo glad to be back! Wish me luck! Yay! See more
