Did you Know, in 1883, Jan Matzeliger, a Black man, successfully invented what many before him had attempted: an automated shoemaking machine that quickly attached the top of the shoe to the sole. This process is called lasting and allowed for shoes to be produced much faster and become more affordable. Honor Mr. Matzeliger today and grab some shoes and go for a walk. The Solano Safe Routes to School Program was happy to celebrate 2 champion schools at the Solano Transportation Authority virtual awards program today, Dixon Montessori Charter School, and Crystal Middle School in Suisun City. These two schools have shown dedicated partnership with the Solano SR2S program by encouraging their students to be active and by providing opportunities for them to walk or bike to school safely.

Our parks across Solano County are open. Walking, biking or rolling to the park is a great way to get some exercise in during the day or on the weekend. The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is working to re-imagine the parks in Vallejo. Help them design what you would like to see for the park near you! Make sure you are being safe when out enjoying our open spaces or even in your backyard. Here are tips from our friends at Solano Public Health about West Nile Virus. Keep COVID safe too by wearing your mask, keeping 6 feet away from others, and washing your hands regularly.

Today is "Bike to Wherever" Day! Remember these Biking Safety Tips for a safe ride... 1. Follow the rules of the road - Did you know that if you ride a bicycle on the road you have the same responsibilities as the driver of a car? - Stop at intersections, stop signs, and ride with the ... direction of traffic. 2. Make sure you are seen and heard - Reflective tape or clothing, reflectors and rear lights make it easier to be seen. - Head lamps or handle bar lights are a must to help to light the road in front of you, and help others to see you! - Bright colored clothing catches people’s attention in the daytime. - A bell or horn will let others know you are near. 3. Don't forget your Helmet! Make sure it fits properly not only is this the law if you are under 18 it sets a positive example and could save your life. See more bike safety tips below and remember Solano SR2S is here to help you bike and walk safely! #BiketoWherever #BikeSolano #SolanoSR2S Solano Mobility VibeSolano
