Sometimes it helps to shake things off. Literally. You’ve probably used the common expression, ‘shaking like a leaf,’ to describe a very natural impulse and reaction to a frightening experience. And, animals automatically ‘shake off’ the tension, fear, and energy of a perceived threat. Shaking is associated with your limbic brain (the brain’s emotional center) and actually helps to signal to the body and mind that things are safe and OK; it can, essentially, switch off ...your body’s ‘fight-or-flight’ response. Unlike animals, however, this ‘shake’ reflex isn’t as natural to us and research indicates we may store the impact of trauma in the body. Our traumatic issues literally get trapped in our tissues. So, what can you do? You can dance. And shake. And move. And dance some more. Freely dancing, similar to how animals physically shake off stress, will help you to wiggle out and shake off our stored stress and trauma. And, it can be ridiculously fun. So, turn on some music, tune out the world, and dance for a few songs. Your body will thank you, and so will your mind. #directprimarycare #slohealth #slohealthcenter #sanluisobispo #primarycarephysician #familymedicine #womenshealthcare #wellness #healthcare #care #directprimarycare #slohealth #slohealthcenter #sanluisobispo #primarycarephysician #familymedicine #womenshealthcare #wellness #healthcare #care See more
