Studies show time and time again that exercise plays a vital role in not only our physical health, but also helps slow down mental decline. Each morning our caring associates assist our residents with exercise appropriate for their ability. With our multiple spacious outdoor areas and beautiful Costa Mesa weather our residents get the opportunity to be outside frequently. ... In addition to our scheduled exercise, we also incorporate physical activity into our day to day engagements. Thank you to our friends at Accent Care for bringing goodies for the team to celebrate Assisted Living Week! We strive to create strong relationships throughout healthcare professions in the area to not only support one another, but for the common goal of serving older adults with dignity and quality care.

We’re social distancing in many ways here at Newport Mesa community, but that doesn’t mean we’re reducing any FUN! Live entertainment still comes to the community to sing to the residents at a safe distance (while keeping our residents healthy!). Live music, interactive engagements, and joy is still very present here daily! #SilveradoStrong

Thanksgiving not only is a time where we share our gratefulness for our lives and each other, but this year it means a pause in this especially hectic pandemic season to bring the spark and joy of being together to the forefront of our hearts. While we miss our families dearly during our annual holiday celebrations, we want to share how much we love being with yours and how much joy they bring us. This is our family, and so are you. Have a blessed Thanksgiving season, and enjoy these smiles of our residents and associates enjoying what matters most; quality time together.

We love to celebrate all occasions! Today we celebrate Laura, one of our incredible caregivers, who is expecting a baby girl very soon! Residents and associates had a wonderful time showering her with love and presents in anticipation of her baby girl’s arrival! This is our family! Congratulations, Laura!

We’re giving a quick shout out to our Dir. of Culinary Services, Modesto, for starting a garden with the residents! Our veggies are coming in nicely; so far we have yellow squash, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, and onions ready to harvest! Modesto has worked at Silverado Newport Mesa for over 22 years; over 1/3 of our associates have 10-22 years of tenure with us. This is the definition of our #SilveradoFamily !

Thanks to all the OC professionals for joining us Tuesday evening for our first Social-Distance Taco Tuesday event! We were so happy to serve chicken tacos, asada tacos, or quesadillas, complete with rice, chips and guacamole salsa, AND horchata or freshly blended watermelon agua fresca! Did I mention the flan dessert? It is so important to continue our strong relationships across the field of health care; we are so thankful for all of you and your strength and support to the older generations during this pandemic!

Well, we certainly can’t pass up the opportunity to celebrate our fabulous furry friends!! Thanks Luna, Porter, Max, Ginger, Coco and Petrie for gracing our lives with your love, eager tail wags, and endless energy! Whether they are community pets, residents pets, or associates pets, we love them all equally! Happy National Dog Day! Post a picture of your dog in the comments!

In addition to our 12-hour dining hosted by a strong culinary team who prepares handmade meals fresh for the day (never pre-frozen!), multiple kitchens throughout the community include pantries, refrigerator and freezer stocked with snacks, promoting independence. Any associate can also assist residents to either grab a snack or order from the kitchen (Would you like eggs at noon? A late-night tuna melt? A chicken caesar salad? Coming right up!) Snacks such as sandwiches, fruit, pudding, sugar-free cookies, granola bars, cold beverages, and more can be found throughout the community, and are restocked daily. We cater to all diets and textures, including dairy free, low sodium or low sugar, sugar free, low potassium, etc and any allergies our residents might have. And we ALL enjoy freshly baked cookies in our kitchen’s ovens!

Pandemic or not, our annual Newport Mesa Luau is here to stay! We love that not only do our associates bring out their flower lei and tropical shirts, but they make sure our residents are ready for the party, too! Photo cred: Stephanie Cali

Every August, Silverado Newport Mesa hosts a very tropical Luau to celebrate summer, complete with live music, and an amazing culinary spread (a whole roast pig)! We are prepping for our lunch event, stay tuned for more pictures!
