Our favorite fall migrants have arrived at Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary! The White-crowned Sparrow, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Hermit Thrush ( see leftmost bird on cover) have all been spotted in the sanctuary. We have a wonderful observation area where you can see them and other cool birds. Come on Sundays between 9 am and 4 pm. We have knowledgeable hosts and a great guide for walks at 10 am and 1:30 pm. In a time where invasive species threaten so many of our natives in wildland habitats, this film is dedicated to our generous supporters and volunteers who helped make Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary the pristine refuge it is today.

Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary was beautiful Sunday, February 10th, in between rainstorms. Some of the shrubs like Bush Poppy, Mission Manzanita and Ceanothus are just starting to bloom. With all the rain, the wildflowers should be amazing this year.

Bobcats and coyotes hanging out side by side is not something you see every day! We do get both bobcats and coyotes out at Silverwood, though. You never know what fascinating wildlife you'll see out on our trails, but it's a beautiful experience every time. We're open Sundays, 9am-4pm.

Calling all nature lovers! Silverwood needs volunteer docents to help lead guided nature education hikes for visitors to the sanctuary. This is an opportunity for individuals who are passionate about protecting our environment and who want to give back to the community. No experience required! We will train docents to be experts in the natural, historical, and social history of Silverwood and provide support and guidance during the learning process. Email Resident Manager Phil Lambert at [email protected].

One week until the party starts! Silverwood will reopen to the public on Sunday, October 7th from 9am-4pm. Guided walks leave at 10am and 1:30pm, and as always, everything is FREE! It's a lovely outing for families (despite what the cartoon birds imply!) Please share with your nature-loving friends.
