Santa Claus spending an evening with the residents of three United Cerebral Palsy group homes in Sylmar.

For 34 years, the San Fernando Kiwanis Club has been joining with Santa Claus to spend an evening with the residents of three United Cerebral Palsy group homes in Sylmar, singing Christmas carols and sharing cookies with young people who are often overlooked this time of year. It is an activity that we all always look forward to, but this year, of course, COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into our plans. We didn't want our young friends to think we - or Santa! - had forgotten abo...ut them, so we made a plan to share some holiday spirit to them and their terrific staff. With the help of a discount from La Palma Bakery in San Fernando, we were able to provide them with boxes of Christmas cookies. And, thanks to Santa Claus, we could send them a videotaped message all the way from the North Pole, even at this busy time of year! We also sent along a short Christmas concert performed by Kadima Conservatory of Music, under the direction of our Kiwanis sister, Beth Elliot. We have promised them we would all be back next year to share music and holiday spirit. We're not sure who misses this activity more, our friends at UCP or our Club membership, but we'll be in fine voice when our opportunity comes around again in 2021!
