There's some truth about the eyes being the window to the soul.

Meet Jorge Padilla, Ranch Manager: In January of 2018, Redwings was fortunate to have Jorge Padilla join our team. Jorge has had a long and successful career in equine care and ranch management. For the past 22 years, Jorge worked at a very large Thoroughbred breeding farm on the central coast. He has a wide range of experience ranging from horse handling and mare and foal management to ranch maintenance and repair. Jorge started as an equine care assistant at Redwings, h...andling daily treatments and medications for our horses, but he was quickly promoted to Ranch Manager. Today Jorge oversees a team of five ranch hands and is responsible for keeping the ranch operating smoothly. He also continues to work with the horses daily as part of the equine care team. Jorge’s dedication to the horses is evident in the care he takes with every task, and he works hard every day to make their lives happy, healthy and safe. See more

Update on the new Redwings property: You can see where the fencing for the road along the office is starting to go up, and, grading for landscaping, office parking and the picnic area (where the brick pavers and donor wall will be) is beginning very soon. Progress! The outdoor picnic and event area will be here (by the side of the office.) It will have grass, picnic tables, trees, and space for an event tent. The road on the other side of this fencing leads into the heart o...f the sanctuary, there will be a locking gate at the entrance to this road. This fence will go all the way along the road, leading to the large mare motel and the pastures. Sara Ruggerone, Equine Care Manager, and Greg Wyatt, Redwings Board President, checking out the new fencing going up.

A Flashback Friday post that still holds true... "Every day the staff at Redwings prepare buckets of supplements and medications for the residents at the sanctuary. As you can see that is a lot of buckets and a lot of feed that we prepare daily. Each horse at Redwings has a diet designed specifically for their needs with all the supplements and medications necessary to keep them happy and healthy."

Are you looking for a smart and athletic sport horse? Ernie is available through our foster to adopt program. Ernie is an 8 year old Irish Thoroughbred that is very athletic and wants a home where he has a job that challenges him. Ernie has excellent ground manners and is very sweet but does require an experienced and confident rider under saddle. Ernie has 3 nice gaits and is naturally balanced and easy to collect. Ernie is suitable for many disciplines and we think he would make a great event horse or jumper.

Bright Eyes was rescued in November of 2019 with a severe injury to her right front leg. At the time of her rescue she was unable to put any weight on her right front leg and she drug it when she walked. We were not sure that she would be able to recover but look at her now. It took months of therapy and rehabilitation but Bright Eyes has made a miraculous recovery and is loving life at the sanctuary. Photo credit Marissa Todd Photography.
