Did you know that according to the CDC about 1 in 9 female and 1 in 36 male high school students have experienced sexual dating violence in the last year and 1 and 11 female and 1 in 15 male students have experienced physical dating violence? February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Many of us prefer not to talk to our children about dating and relationships simply because of the uncomfortable feelings that can arise in these conversations. Please talk to your kids ab...out love, healthy communication, healthy attachment and about what is and is not appropriate in relationships. Do not shame them. We are role models for our kids. Show them what love looks like. Love is never abusive. Conversation starters: What is a healthy way to argue? What is an unhealthy way to argue? What does it mean to stand up for yourself? When you stand up for yourself do you think that you are being strong or pushy? What values do you think are important in relationships? (Friendship and romantic) Who’s relationship do you want yours to look like? Why? What have you found the most effective communication to be? More tips will be coming your way throughout the month. Stay tuned! Info from: CDC.gov and breakthecycle.org _____ Serenity Trauma Foundation offers free or low cost treatment to all victims of abuse. We treat clients 15 and older. Please consider donating to the foundation to help someone in need get the mental health care that they deserve. The 5 am club is on the top of our reading list for 2021. Change is HARD, even if it is change for the better. We are creatures of habit. If we are used to calm and consistency we love calm and consistency and when times get tough it is terrifying. If we are used to chaos we will most likely continue to be in chaotic situations even if we don’t really want to be; it’s just what our bodies and mind are used to. Change is a process. Healing is a process. It doesn’t happen over ...night but it is definitely gorgeous in the end. . . . . #change #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatter #maninthemirror #outpatientrecovery #trauma #survivortothriver #serenity #serzenity #youmatter See more
