Did you know bubble gum was invented in 1926 by an Accountant? According to our friends over at Wikipedia:... Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Walter Diemer was working as an accountant at Fleer in 1926 when the company president sought to cut costs by making their own gum base. The company's founder, Frank Henry Fleer, had previously made a batch of bubble gum in 1906 which he called "Blibber Blubber", but it was too sticky and easily broke. Although an accountant by trade, Diemer liked to experiment with gum recipes in his spare time. In doing so, he accidentally stumbled upon a unique recipe. The gum was pink because it was the only food coloring in the factory, which is the reason most bubble gum today is pink.[1] Sorry Walter, we're more dark chocolate fans here at NTV. But we do admire your innovative spirit. So the next time you scrape gum off your shoe or stick one under a movie theater seat, thank our friendly accountant buddy, Walter Diemer.

But we work with entrepreneurs all year long, and we know the ones that stand out. Before you pay full price for any service, ask your accountant if they know anyone. If we have a tight relationship with them, you might even be able to score a friendly discount. Here's a sample of the connections we have:... Tutors Magicians Auto mechanics Graphic designers Facebook Ad writers Electricians Appliance repair Pest control technicians Videographers Make-up artists Like the famous saying goes, it's not always about what you know, but who you know. Our HR Manager, Donny, was checking his Apple News today and read about a new, NSA-developed virus that hackers have been using to steal your personal information and leave all sorts of nasty things you don't want on your computer. Eternal Blue has been making its way into business databases across the globe. Businesses like Accounting and Tax Preparation firms that works with sensitive information such as social security numbers. The best way to get rid of this virus is to... download a patch, install it, and continue to monitor system activity. Do you know if YOUR accounting firm has the right people and technology in place to protect your personal information? At NTV Accountants, we don't worry about such things. We have a full time, double-master IT professional who keeps abreast of these security issues. On top of that, we have moved all of our servers onto a secured cloud-based platform that is monitored 24/7 and staffed with a cybersecurity team. It wasn't cheap, nor was it easy for us to do this during such a busy time. But after hearing about exploits such as "WannaCry - Conficker - Stuxnet", we decided the best course of action for our valued customers was to shift things over to paid experts. If you're already a client of ours, you can rest easy knowing that we put our money where our "mouse" is when it comes to protecting your data. It's just another reason why we're so cool. Rock on!

For those who have not filed with us this year but want to, please note that while our schedule is completely booked, we can still help you file an extension with the IRS. For those who plan to file an extension, you'll want to pay attention to this: 1. Taxes owed are still due by April 15th: If you owe taxes this year, you’re required to send the estimated taxes due to the IRS along with your extension request. Extensions only increase the amount of time you have to file the... paperwork, not to pay taxes. If you expect to owe, you should complete your return and send in your payment to the IRS as soon as possible to minimize penalties and interest. And while many states are required to file an extension with their State also, in California the state tax returns are automatically extended for 6 months. 2. Your extension request could be denied: Any errors or inaccuracies on Form 4868 could cause your extension to be rejected by the IRS. Double check to make sure that all your information including your name, address and social security number are correct. An extension rejection could lead to a failure-to-file penalty not to mention a big headache down the road. 3. Your return will be due on October 15th: If you filed for an extension, mark this date on your calendar because you will have exactly six months to file your paperwork! (Except taken from http://www.huffingtonpost.com//5-things-you-need-to-know_8) Feel free to contact us or give us a call today to help you with your extension. (619) 280-6620

How to know if a call from the IRS is a scam: The IRS will never : - Call to demand immediate payment over the phone, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you several bills. - Call or email you to verify your identity by asking for personal and financial information.... - Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe. - Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card. - Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the telephone or email. - Threaten to immediately bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying. http://wqad.com//how-to-know-that-call-from-the-irs-is-a-/
