Thanks to everyone who showed up to our meeting yesterday; we had over 50 peoplenot bad for an election meeting. A special thanks go out to all of our candidates: non-agendized, endorsed, and non-endorsed. No one likes to have to choose between such qualified candidates for the same position, but it is a testimony to the quality of those candidates that our decisions were so difficult. Here are the candidates we endorsed:... Adrian Arancibia Sweetwater Board of Education Seat 2 Nicholas Segura Sweetwater Board of Education Seat 4 Lucy Ugarte Chula Vista Elementary School Board of Education Seat 2 Kate Bishop Chula Vista Elementary School Board of Education Seat 4 Michelle Gates National City School Board Nina Deerfield Palomar Community College D 2 Roberto Rodriguez Palomar Community College D 4 Rob Howard Oceanside Mayor Thanks again, Gregg Robinson, President

SOLIDARITY LETTER UNITE/HERE 30 Sean Clancy Vice President & General Manager Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina 1380 Harbor Island Dr... San Diego, CA 92101 [email protected] Mr. Clancy, As leaders in both the Democratic party and the Labor Movement in San Diego we were deeply disturbed to learn of Sheraton/KSL Resorts’ recent actions in regards to their workers and their union. We call on your hotel to respect your union’s (UNITE/HERE 30) call to protect workers by rehiring according to seniority. We further call on Sheraton/KSL Resorts to bargain in good faith with UNITE/HERE 30. As we understand it, on July 8th 206 of your workers were notified that they faced permanent layoffs or terminations---some of whom have been with the hotel for up to 40 years! Yet other less senior workers were told they were on the list to be rehired. We find it both suspicious and disheartening that a chain as powerful as Sheraton/KSL Resorts would be using the tragedy of the COVID-19 crisis to undermine the job security and livelihood of its most loyal workers. We hope this is not short-sighted cost cutting (bringing back less experienced workers) or union busting (given that the union only recently won the vote to represent workers less than18 months ago). We know that the virus has forced difficult decisions on all of us, but it should not be used as an excuse to inflict this kind of suffering. Many members of your workforce are heads of families, low income, and members of the Latinx communitythe community most devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic here in San Diego. For an organization that depends on the good will of both the public and local political leaders to be engaging in such callous behavior is at best self-defeating and at worst cold-hearted. Please be aware we will be circulating this letter to both the Democratic Party leadership here in San Diego as well the union movement. We hope we will not have to take further action. Please take seriously the sacrifices so many your employees have made for your organization over decades and give them the support they deserve. Sincerely, Gregg Robinson, President Labor Democratic Club of San Diego and Associate Member Democratic Central Committee Ricardo Ochoa, Vice President Labor Democratic Club of San Diego; Executive Board member of California Democratic Party; Central Committee member of San Diego County Democratic Party Sara Kent, Secretary Labor Democratic Club of San Diego

Thanks SO much to everyone who attended our meeting yesterday! The talk by Daraka was inspiring, but, most importantly, he also pushed us to ORGANIZE inside the Democratic party AND the Labor movement. Words of wisdom for these troubled times.
