Today we remember the life and legacy Terrie Marable Makin. There are no words to express the sadness that the Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization community is experiencing. We received the news on April 24th that Terrie died in her sleep unexpectedly. Terrie has touched hundreds of lives through her volunteer work with Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization since 2012. She’d just passed her 11 year Cancerversary last month. Terrie has been our treasurer for the... past eight years. She helped us with writing grants, secured water for our annual breast cancer walks and countless other behind-the-scenes tasks that are necessary to run a nonprofit. She dedicated her life to serving disabled individuals and those in need including working at Easter Seals for 40 years. Terrie will be truly missed for her infectious smile, sense of humor and perseverance. She will be forever in our hearts and her legacy will continue to make an impact on the breast cancer community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, Greg, her daughter Michele and her son Brad and their families.

If you’re stopping in to find HOPE, look no further! March 9th marked my 34th cancerversary! I was 32 when I found the lump on New Year’s Day in 1987. Having an estrogen negative, poorly differentiated, aneuploidy stage 2 breast cancer that was 2 cm x 5 cm (and later learned it was Her2Neu+ through an archival study in 1999) heralded a long overdue spiritual awakening. I knew I had to release toxins (people, environmental and my best friends Taco Bell & Diet Coke) from ...my life. I shed the darkness in which I was enshrouded and discovered a beautiful and radiant light. We are still holding groups on Zoom on the first and third Thursdays of each month! Call me for details! ~ Cass. (916) 882-2117

Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization has resumed most of its regular breast cancer groups via teleconferencing. There are adjustments in the schedule. The morning group (Stage 0-3) meets at 3:00 on Thursdays and will resume its previous first and third Thursday schedule in August. The Other Shoe Group meets at 11-1:30 in the first and third Thursdays. This is for those with metastatic breast cancer. We use Google Meet, a privacy protected venue. Participants will ...have to download the Google Meet app. The Roseville group meets at 3:00 P.M. on the third Mondays. The Young Survivor Group (under 40) is currently searching for a new time because members are juggling mothering and home schooling while working from home. Right now Wednesday is looking promising. The Thursday night group meets at 7:15 (instead of 6:15). Our faith-based group meets via zoom on the first Tuesdays. We are considering a private Facebook group for those who’d like to start in a new group. If interested in any of the above-mentioned groups, leave a message. Or contact me via: (916) 882-2117 ~ Cass Brown Capel

In honor of National Cancer Survivor Day, SOS will open private FB breast cancer support groups. These will be hidden groups to maintain privacy. We will have one for early stage breast cancer (0-3), metastatic breast cancer, and a young survivor group for those under 40. If you’d like to be invited to join, message me on messenger! These groups will have the capacity to have live groups on line as well! Looking forward to hearing from you! Cass Brown Capel

Hi There! Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization is still alive and thriving, despite no educational forums since February. We are looking for a new venue since Nordstrom Arden Fair Mall closed. That location has served us well since 1993 as it is just off the freeway, and approximately equidistant from Elk Grove and Rocklin areas. ... We would love to have some help with this search. The room should be able to hold 40-50. We are looking for a free space. Here are some suggestions in the area: Macy’s Kaiser Point West American Red Cross (room holds 20) Hilton Point West Hotel (or is it Red Lion?) Thoughts? Feel free to check in here! ~ Cass

Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis is shocking and devastating. Most of us simply don’t have time to do breast cancer. As many of us know, treatment entails 6-12 months (and beyond, in 30% of cases). Here’s a thought that helped me: you may not be able to stop the wind, but you can adjust your sails. With that, I took a deep breathe and lived one day at a time... in 1987.
