KANSHA :: Gratitude . . It has been a month since we lost our dear friend, mentor, and boss in Dr. Dennis Shinbori. We are all so thankful for everything that he did to build the practice, care for his patients, and his contributions to the dental profession.... I learned a story about Dennis last week from Dr. Jeff Brucia that shows the type of leader Dr. Shinbori was. In 2001, the California Dental Association had their annual conference at The Moscone Center soon after the 9/11 attack. Drs. Brucia and Shinbori stood in front of the Moscone doors to tell everyone that the conference was cancelled and to go home. Back then technology was not as established as it is now to get an important message across. I don’t know how soon after 9/11 the conference took place but I’m sure there was some fear and risk involved to stand in front of those doors. With the current situation, I have no doubt Dr. Shinbori would have been on the frontlines, looking out for the greater dental community. Thank you, Dennis. We will miss you.

KOKY :: Breath . . . A couple weeks ago in Seattle, I took a moment to take a deep breath and learn about the importance of airway, breathing, and sleep from @rbockow. They say once you learn airway, all dental issues seem to be airway related: teeth wear, gum recession, malocclusion, gummy smiles, reflux, and on and on. I’m excited to share this knowledge with our patients and organize a team to help them. ... . . And matcha. Just cuz.
