Happy Turkey Day from SFMA! Don't forget to make some home movies!
San Francisco Media Archive at Artists' Television Access on Home Movie Day. Volunteers hard at work inspecting home movies, Pamela Jean mc'ing the event, Oddball Films archivist Megan Needels setting up our home movie, and SFMA director Tara Lee Ford introducing the film tribute to SFMA founder Stephen Parr. Photos by Pearl Martin-Eagle.
Oddball Films and San Francisco Media Archive are initiating a film preservation project. Our first focus is on detecting and measuring the severity of acetate deterioration ("vinegar syndrome") in our film collections. Shown here is lead archivist, Megan Needels using A-D strips to measure these levels on this 16mm film print.
Join Oddball Films at the 3rd I South Asian Films for Up Down & Sideways on Sunday, November 4 at NEW PEOPLE, 1746 Post St., San Francisco, CA 94115 at 2:45pm. Hypnotic rhythms and complex polyphonic music reverberate through the hills of Nagaland in this portrait of an indigenous community and their remarkable musical traditions, set in the alluring northeast of India. The villagers of Phek sing Lis - call and response style work songs - as they labor over their rice paddi...es, echoing timeless themes of love and the land. For the complete festival program and to purchase tickets, please visit www.thirdi.org Use promotional code "cp_2018 when purchasing tickets and receive 20% off an individual $11 ticket (until online sales end two hours before the screening.
