A huge shout out to the Mohsin family whose daughter, Hana, was one of our 2009 Student Ambassadors. Not only is their business located on River Road, but their residence was dangerously close to the River Fire.

Though we had to give up to send students to Salinas due to the COVID19 this year, we had chance to review our history for 41 years, and let people know our activities. Through this news story, we hope many people start to have interest to our friendship.

A message and picture from Mr. Toshihiro Gatanaga, Chairman of the Ichikikushikino-Salinas Sister City Association on the passing of Mayor Joe Gunter: "We are deeply sorry to learn of Mayor Joe Gunter's passing. We knew he was a wonderful person not only as a businessman but also as a human being. Needless to say, he always gave great and warm support to Sister city association. Many Ichikikushikino citizens and students mentioned his gentleness and were able to know the ...good Salinas city. His passing will be great loss for citizen of Salinas and us. Please accept our sincere condolences. In deepest sympathy, Chairman Toshihiro Gatanaga" See more

The Salinas-Ichikikushikino Sister City Association would like to offer condolences to the family and friends of Mayor Joe Gunter. Mayor Gunter was a faithful supporter and advocate of the sister city relationship between Salinas and Ichikikushikino, Japan, and the Sister City Association. He welcomed numerous groups of Student Ambassadors from both cities to City Hall and let them sit at the Mayor’s Seat in the council chambers. Whenever the Association had an event, he always made the time to attend because he believed in the Association’s ideals: that the future of our societies was dependent upon peaceful interaction between our nations and upon the growth of understanding and friendship between our young people. Thank you, Mayor Gunter, for all your years of dedicated service to the community of Salinas.
