Nurses, palliative staff and caregivers frequently sit with the dying at the end of their lives. They hear it all. They patiently listen through touching stories, great achievements and even some pretty heavy regrets. Here are the top 5 regrets of the dying: 1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. 2. I wish I didn't work so hard... 3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings 4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends. 5. I wish I had let myself be happier. Actively working to live your life with purpose, working less when possible, pursuing relationships and happiness and resolving conflict will lead to fewer regrets later in life. Don't hesitate to reach out to us with any concerns or questions. We are here to help.

MYTH: Hospice is only available in the last few days of life. FACT: Hospice is available at any point that a physician certifies that a person has a life-limiting illness and life expectancy is 6 months or less. People live an average of 29 days longer in hospice care than alternative forms of end of life care (and often with more comfort, dignity and peace).

In creating a meaningful service or celebration of life, take some time to choose readings. A thought out reading may help comfort some during the service and even time after, acknowledge the reality of the death, and to move toward the pain of the loss.
