Sacramento Valley Chorus 01.11.2020

SACRAMENTO VALLEY CHORUS' rehearsal last night included a variety of accomplishments. Physical warmups were conducted by Cindy Henry and vocal warmups included bubbling techniques by our Master Director, Dede Nibler. Dede was given the "Glue Girl" award by Bonnie Flint as we reflected on our past 8 month pandemic Zoom journey. Dede's devotion to adapting and persevering to deliver vocal warmups during her morning classes, Mon-Thursdays 09:30am-10:00am, has kept us emot...ionally and physically connected. The emotional, physical and psychological challenges have been addressed and partially overcome by Dede's drive to vocal education and communication. Our assistant director, Vicky Lampe, rolled out the names of our November birthdays and declared the month of November to be National Jewelry month. We spent the rest of the evening partially in sectional practice and then group singing some of our favorite melodic repertoires. Kerry Wood received the random attendance award for the night.

SACRAMENTO VALLEY CHORUS held our Zoomtastic Halloween gathering last night and had a roaring good time! The evening welcomed 10 guests to a delightful program of tricks and treats of how barbershop style singing has played an important part of our lives! Most ladies who have joined this wonderful organization truthfully told they came for the harmonies, but stayed for the friendships and camaraderie. As evidenced last night, we bonded over a trip down memory lane and t...estimonies of how grateful we all are to share such an extraordinary gift of 4 part acapella style singing. Costumes were over the top as usual. Costume contest categories were won by the following: Marty Pacini-vivacious, Suzanne Lane-sexy, Bonnie Flint-walking dead, Piet Chini-cute, and Carol Wharton-scary! Halloween songs were sung to keep everyone in the spooktacular mood as we celebrated our friendships and singing passion. See more

Our ZOOM rehearsal last night was set for a learning curve to adapt to wearing a headphone set with a microphone. Welcome to the 21st century ladies! The learning bar is set to explore a current up to date modality, and yes, it may take awhile to adapt. But the chorus as a whole will get there with a whole lot of patience. Warmups were performed by Pam Johnson and we celebrated/welcomed three new guests for the night. Our featured Sweet Adeline for the week was our own... baritone section leader, Bonnie Flint. Bonnie's journey into the world of Sweet Adelines is refreshing and genuine. Her personality, perseverance and exceptional teaching/mentoring skills have carried her throughout some great personal achievements.. She is our baritone section leader with an awesome aura like no other. She sparkles when the sun doesn't shine! Thank you for all your hard work and years of and dedication to this unique art form. We rehashed over words of wisdom by our previous weeks guest speaker, Deke Sharon and came to some solid truths. We also communicated how we want to continue our path of new enlightenment into the singing future. Debi Gordon received the random attendance award for the night. And thanks to our tech team Debi Gordon and Piet Chini for once again making our ZOOM rehearsals a smooth experience.

Sacramento Valley Chorus 04.08.2020

SACRAMENTO VALLEY CHORUS had an awesome guest last night at our virtual rehearsal. Deke Sharon joined us on ZOOM and gave an intriguing 90 minute speech regarding the acapella industry. He has been called the "Godfather" of acapella. He comes by this title as a coach, author, songwriter, arranger, and composer. He has sung in a couple of different touring groups and was hired for his talents for the movie "Pitch Perfect". His character is effervescent but his personalit...y is down to earth. He believes the world truly deserves an honest performance conveying the song's true meaning. He believes everyone should sing their truth, relying on their own personal life experiences to deliver the message. His reader digests version of the history of acapella made a lot of sense. He pointed out that Sweet Adelines' polarized ground rules may well need some updating to stay in tune with societies ever changing and fast moving lifestyles. He pointed out the brilliance of the stage play/movie "Hamilton", suggesting so many opportunities are still outside the box waiting to be discovered and sung in a different interpretation. Thank you to both Kerry Wood and Master Director Dede Nibler for bringing this wonderful gentleman into our minds and hearts. He definitely presented many different options to implement into our choruses' future. Now, back to the drawing board for applying new thought patterns and brainstorming. There are no limits on our new horizon.
