Redwood Day 01.01.2021

Today is the last day of this year’s virtual Book Fair and we’re thrilled that author and Redwood Day parent, Melanie Abrams, will be joining us online tonight at 7 pm for a conversation about her book, Meadowlark. See the Weekly for the Zoom link. And get your final shopping in before midnight! rdschool.org/bookfair credit to Niki Stefanelli

Yesterday our 2nd graders dissected squid in science class! They found it both fascinating and slightly gross. After observing the outer and inner parts, they removed the gladius, cut the ink sack, and used the gladius "pen" to draw with the squid ink on a piece of paper. Cool!

Some pictures from yesterday’s Halloween Car Parade, which had an incredible turnout as many families paraded their decorated vehicles around the back parking lot where they were given Boo Bags by the faculty and staff. So much creepy fun had by all! #redwoodday #growintogreat

Don't miss your chance to watch one or two awesome Pixar films with your Redwood Day community, safely outdoors, at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Tickets and all information can be found here: one.bidpal.net/redwooddaymovies

Today was our first in-person advisory activity for the Middle School! This replaced our regular Community Day programming. Each grade had a 1-hour socially distant advisory meeting outside where they played games, socialized, and otherwise got a chance to see their classmates, advisors, and teachers in person. #redwoodday #growintogreat

Redwood Day Hosts Its First Annual Latinx-Hispanic Heritage Assembly During today's Community Day, our students, parents, guardians, faculty, and staff were treated to an incredible virtual assembly which recognizes and honors National Hispanic Heritage Month. The highlight of the assembly was a video that featured many members of our school community and the broader community. In the video, the subjects were asked several questions about their heritage like, "What does it feel like to be part of your identity group?" The responses were insightful and educational.

Mystery solved! The unexpected growth in our lower school yard has been identified by our Lower School Art Teacher, Cedar Nelson, as a Gourd. A quick Google search shows that gourds are technically considered a fruit because they are part of the flowering plants that contain the seeds. Can you eat a gourd? Yes, the flesh is edible. A special shoutout to Ross Scroggs for initially calling attention to this incredible and unexpected growth. Also, thank you to those who submitted guesses as to the identity of our plant. #redwoodday #growintogreat @ Redwood Day

Middle School Supply Pickup is going on now! #redwoodday #growintogreat @ Redwood Day

Redwood Day 06.07.2020

Today’s Lower School Supply Pickup was a huge success! Huge honoring to Jill Nesbitt and Johanna Aeschliman for organizing the pickup. We were able to give out school supplies while remaining socially-distant. The parents and guardians were super helpful in following the directions sent beforehand for a smooth process all around. #redwoodday #growintogreat @ Redwood Day
