Celebrating Earth Month!

In solidarity with our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) employee owners and community members, Recology stands united against any form of racism, discrimination and injustice. We know we’re not alone in our feelings of outrage over the violence against the AAPI community, and remain committed to the fight for racial justice.

Recology today announced that Salvatore Sal Coniglio has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Coniglio served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Recology. He took over on January 1st as part of a transition plan put in place in anticipation of the retirement of Recology’s long-serving Chief Executive Officer, Michael Mike Sangiacomo, on December 31 . I have dedicated over three decades of my professional life to R...ecology, and I am deeply proud of the work we have done together to reduce waste and promote recycling with a focus on sustainability, said Mr. Sangiacomo. I have had the privilege of acting as a mentor to Sal over the course of his five years with Recology, and I wish him and Recology every success going forward. Find a plastic alternative and make the switch permanent! 2. Encourage the adults in your life to do the same. Single-use plastic bags and baggies are top of our list for cutting out (especially with so many #reusable alternatives out there in the marketplace).... 3. Visit your local #ReUse store. Get to know their inventory. Fall in love with filling up! 4. Write an email-DM-Tweet-message to your favorite brand. Tell them you value #plasticfree packaging. 5. Yesterday marked the 100-year anniversary of the incorporation of Sunset Scavenger Company, a waste collection company founded by Genoese Italian immigrants. In the early days, collection operations included a horse and a hand cart like the one pictured here. It is this history that laid the foundation for the company that became known as Norcal Waste Systems, and eventually, Recology. Recology employee owners throughout the years have included talented and dedicated wome...n and men who built this company and continue to work together to keep it going strong. Though we were not able to commemorate this historic milestone as we had originally planned, it serves as an important reminder that we are all in this together, and we will continue to work together to serve our communities like Recology employees have for the past century. Here's to 100 more!
