Caring for the Community! Coroner Bureau's Sheriff Service Officer Angelica Baez-Jimenez often performs acts of kindness in the community, never asking for recognition. The Coroner's Bureau received the following letter, which speaks volumes about the kind of person SSO Baez-Jimenez is: I am emailing you because a young lady at your station has made an everlasting impression on my family. ... A couple days ago my husband and I were at Subway in Perris ordering food. These last couple months have been extremely difficult as we are experiencing a financial hardship. As we were waiting to get helped my husband and I were talking amongst each other. We could only afford one sandwich and had to share. Your officer, Baez was standing in line as well. I’m sure she over heard our conversation but simply glanced over and shared a smile. She began ordering and while my husband and I continued talking she told the person helping us that she would pay for our order and to add another of the same kind sandwich. To her it may have been a small gesture but to us it meant the world. This young officer never judged us or treated us like criminals and didn’t come with any assumptions. And because of her, my faith in law enforcement has been restored. You have a kind and amazing young lady working for you! Thank you times a million officer Baez, you have no idea how you’ve impacted my life and thank you to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department!!! Thank you!

One of the Greats has retired! Deputy Coroner Denise Ferris began her career with the Coroner’s Bureau on February 21, 1991. She served as a Field Training Officer, Administrative Deputy Coroner, and was one of the first Coroner personnel to serve on the Riverside Sheriff's Department Dive Team. After 28 years of loyal and dedicated service to the People of Riverside County, she is moving on to new adventures in retirement! We wish her the best in all her future endeavors and will all miss her greatly!! Thank you for your service!

~Rose Dedication Ceremony~ The Coroner’s Bureau, in collaboration with OneLegacy, was honored to host our 6th annual Rose Dedication Ceremony on December 11th, in Perris, honoring the brave families that gave the gift of life this year. The Coroner’s Bureau and OneLegacy work together to facilitate the saving and healing of lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation. OneLegacy is the non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through organ donation in the greater Lo...s Angeles area. Donor families spoke about the healing that donation provides in the face of tragedy. Donor families who attended were presented with roses and had the opportunity to write messages on rose vials to honor their loved ones. The vials will be a part of OneLegacy’s Donate Life float at the 2020 Rose Parade. The float's journey is to inspire parade spectators to join millions of Americans who are registered donors. In the United States today, there are over 123,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ, and hundreds of thousands more whose lives could be healed through eye and tissue transplantation. A single organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and heal as many as 100 more. Anyone can register when renewing a driver’s license or state ID, or by visiting www.donatelifeamerica.org. Congratulations Sgt. Rissi! Today, Coroner Sergeant Nancy Rissi joined the elite ranks of sergeants who have graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute program. This dynamic and challenging eight-session course spans over an eight-month period and is designed to stimulate personal growth, leadership, and ethical decision-making for law enforcement front-line supervisors. Graduates leave SBSLI equipped with the tools to become positive and effective leaders of the future. Chief Deputy Matthew Jimenez and Lt. Charles Guillen attended in support of Sgt. Rissi.

Providing Service with Care and Compassion Deputy Coroner Rebecca Gomez was recognized at Trauma Intervention Program's "Heroes with Heart" annual awards dinner for her extraordinary caring and compassion for citizens in crisis. With over 20 years of dedicated service, Deputy Gomez continues to demonstrate the true meaning of public service by providing compassion with professionalism during death investigations.

Welcome Deputy Coroner Nicole Clear! Nicole Clear was sworn in as a Deputy Coroner by Sheriff Bianco in front of family and friends on June 20th, providing critical staffing to the Coroner's Bureau!

Bon Voyage! After 14 years of faithful service, Deputy Public Administrator Debbie Battenfield is retiring. We wish her the best in retirement, she will be dearly missed by all!

Riverside County Coroner joins nationwide effort to assist Puerto Rico! Senior Coroner Technician Francisco Moreno-Hernandez and Coroner Technician Ivy Lua Zandoval traveled to Puerto Rico last week to assist forensic pathologists in reducing the backlog of cases following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Marie in 2017.
