I was corresponding with a colleague the other day, who I had not spoken with for some time...he wrote about what this year had taught him about life and he thanked me toward the end of his letter, for having been part of his growth. I was deeply touched by what he’d shared with me. Although I consider what he shared personal, It dawned on me to share with him something I’ve come to know. And that is this...after reading his note, it supported the faith that I’ve often been ...asked about! People often ask me, where do I get the energy, to give to so many? So I left the conversation with my dear friend and colleague in this manner, which I’m sharing with you. I said ... I do what I do; "because in the end, a life of purpose well lived is all that can be expected, and that makes it all worth it! Your living legacy, created by you, in the time we have been given." That’s what I’m reminded of and think of most often. It fuels me and I’m grateful for that! He responded by copying this statement that I just shared and sent it back in an email and thanked me for such a profound thought. Never had I considered that beforehand. Be well... Rp

CALLER: My usual? You know me? GOOGLE: According to our caller ID data sheet, the last 12 times you called you ordered an extra-large pizza with three cheeses, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and meatballs on a thick crust. CALLER: OK! That’s what I want ... GOOGLE: May I suggest that this time you order a pizza with ricotta, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and olives on a whole wheat gluten-free thin crust? CALLER: What? I detest vegetable! GOOGLE: Your cholesterol is not good, sir. CALLER: How the hell do you know! GOOGLE: Well, we cross-referenced your home phone number with your medical records. We have the result of your blood tests for the last 7 years. CALLER: Okay, but I do not want your rotten vegetable pizza! I already take medication for my cholesterol. GOOGLE: Excuse me sir, but you have not taken your medication regularly. According to our database, you purchased only a box of 30 cholesterol tablets once, at Drug RX Network, 4 months ago. CALLER: I bought more from another drugstore. GOOGLE: That doesn’t show on your credit card statement. I paid in cash. GOOGLE: But you did not withdraw enough cash according to your bank statement. CALLER: I have other sources of cash. GOOGLE: That doesn’t show on your last tax return unless you bought them using an undeclared income source, which is against the law. CALLER: WHAT THE HELL! GOOGLE: I'm sorry, sir, we use such information only with the sole intention of helping you. CALLER: Enough already! I'm sick to death of Google, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and all the others. I'm going to an island without internet, cable TV, where there is no cell phone service and no one to watch me or spy on me. GOOGLE: I understand sir, but you need to renew your passport first. It expired 6 weeks ago...

I read an article that talked about empathy and how necessary that skill in leadership is today! Although is has been for years it’s now recognized as a critical skill! Imagine this for a moment, at a time when you, the employee, staff or team member isn’t feeling safe, you’re worried, somewhat scared and concerned with your family and facing a job where there is little to no empathy shown by the leadership team. There are actually companies still operating through this pand...emic, with reckless ambition and those who work for them will one day rise up and leave for good and they won’t tolerate it in the future. We are a Nation of Champions; which is reflected throughout our history of overcoming adversity and struggles...which ultimately built our great Nation! Yes...we’ve still got our share of challenges and this one #Coronavirus is absolutely no exception! But, no matter what...this is the perfect time to reflect on life and what remains important to each of us...we’re all a part of the larger community even though we rarely think of it this way! Oh yes...we may say it but do we ...understand that? What affects one, eventually affects others and this is the best time to listen, learn, and act with integrity and concern for everyone. This still unfolding event with this new strain of corona virus must cause us to reconsider many of the things we take for granted such as; our personal and public hygiene practices, our standards of care, our emergency preparedness, and our safety at large for all! That includes kindness, respect, helpfulness and empathy. We shall get through this together and we will do that together because what happens to one affects the other! We have the unprecedented opportunity to show what we are truly made of; and I believe we are the essence of human dignity and goodness, which rises above all and will guarantee a future full of endless possibilities! So I was listening...to TD Jakes and he said something that jumped out at me and I wanted to share what I took away from his talk this morning: You can be a rare case and know your calling or rather your #purpose; which is what I spend a lot of time speaking and coaching on, but, not managing your #purpose well will not get you where you want to be in life! I reflected on this moment while sitting here in Long Beach overlooking the scene above and I thought; no wonder...no w...onder we miss the mark so often and struggle, even if we’re one of the few who get it, the few who really know their #purpose. The lesson for me is...I realize that I have to manage myself and my #purpose the right way or I don’t earn the right to achieve the outcome that I really want for myself or those I want to serve.
