Pulled off the top ends, added AFR aluminum heads, Clay Smith cams, modified intake manifolds for better airflow, then topped them off with a pair of Arizona Speed and Marine throttle bodies, Joe Baca at the DYNO helm taking these babies just shy of 600HP. Tips from Jimmy the engine builder Part 2. Measure all your rods and main journals on crankshaft. Also, measure housing bores on block and rods. Correct main and rod bearing clearances are crucial for avoiding catastrophic engine failure.

To my engine enthusiast’s out there. Bob Perkell here. Originally took a stock 454CID EFI which makes 330HP. Working off a tight budget and with the expertise guidance from everyone at Baca Marine/Pfaff Engines. Changed out my stock heads from oval to rectangular ports, stepped up the cam, SRP pistons, eagle rods, Mercury 500 intake manifold cause she was starved for air, balanced and blueprinted. Joe Baca worked his magic on the Dyno, bringing her up to 543hp with 600 ft. lbs of torque. Huge shout to to everyone at this amazing shop for making this happen. I’m soooo greatful.
