Join us in telling Biden: The United States should demand the Duque Administration immediately end any and all violence against protesters and protect human rights in Colombia. The Colombian government must order an independent investigation into police actions. The U.S. must invoke the Leahy Law and end funding to the Colombian military and police units who are clearly engaged in carrying out human rights abuses. Sign our petition : bit.ly/33sD6Zb
Urgent Action! Honduras Solidarity Network of North America (HSN) is concerned about the suspension of the trial against David Castillo during the examination of information extracted from Daniel Atala's cell phone. Our dismay is heightened by the fact that the suspension of the trial proceedings comes in the midst of questioning conducted by the attorneys representing the victims who have provided evidence of the circumstances and background that led to the murder of indigen...ous leader, environmentalist and feminist Berta Cáceres, as well as the involvement of the Atala Zablah family, and in particular DESA’s financial manager, Daniel Atala. We are concerned that this suspension is a maneuver by powerful economic groups seeking to hide their involvement and responsibility in the crime against Berta Cáceres. Demand Honduran authorities to continue with David Castillo's trial and to guarantee the right of Hondurans to a fair trial! To support follow the link: https://afgj.salsalabs.org/2021hondurasbertacace/index.html From the United States and Canada we demand that the Honduran state respect the individual guarantees and the victims’ rights to a fair trial, without obstructing the Honduran people's right to truth and justice.

That is what happens if Facebook does not take quick actions combating violence on its own platform. Any day now, the Facebook Oversight Board will make a decision about whether Donald Trump is banned from Facebook permanently or whether he’s given back his megaphone for inciting hatred and violence and spreading dangerous lies. Let's send the Oversight Board members a message today: hate and lies have no place on Facebook. Ban Trump permanently.
President Joe Biden has pledged to end U.S. support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen, supported by both the Obama and Trump administrations, describing it as a humanitarian and strategic catastrophe. The six-year war in Yemen has devastated the country, killing at least 100,000 people and pushing 80% of the country into instability requiring some form of aid or protection, according to the United Nations. Biden’s remarks on Yemen come amid a freeze of U.S. arms sales to Saudi... Arabia, with similar sales to the United Arab Emirates also up for review. This is the culmination of six years of activism and advocacy to end the U.S.’s role in the war in Yemen, says Yemeni scholar and activist Shireen Al-Adeimi, an assistant professor at Michigan State University. We have a president who finally acknowledged the devastating war that is, frankly, caused by the U.S.’s participation. See more
Donald Trump is no longer on Facebook. That's great news for everyone who wants hate and lies off their social media platforms. According to a recent report from Zignal Labs, misinformation dropped over 70% once the former President was banned. But now the tech giant has announced that it’s passing the decision about whether to keep Trump off of Facebook permanently to its brand-new Facebook Oversight Board.... Let's make sure the Oversight Board does its job and keeps Donald Trump off Facebook. Our democracy and civil society depend on it. This is the story of Miriam Rodriguez who gave everything even her life struggling for justice and against impunity in the murder of her daughter. In April of 2017, less than two weeks before her death Miriam joined Global Exchange and the other organizers participating in the Caravan Against Fear in the Rio Grande Valley, on the Texas side - just across the river from Miriam’s home state of Tamaulipas. Since 2017 we’ve worked with and supported the networks Miriam left behind to help fight impunity in Tamaulipas. But the struggle is far from won. Take a listen to this podcast.
Please take a list to Global Exchange board member Pierre La Boissiere talk about about government corruption, massacres, and Haiti’s rapid descent into dictatorship.
"Some people say the blockade isn't a big deal. That our economic problems are caused by our government or by socialism. If that's true, 'why don't they lift the blockade?'" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pNBp0n08ak
Facebook is trying to stop public interest researchers from NYU from looking into their ad-targeting practices -- researchers who've already exposed major failures in Facebook's vetting and fact-checking of political ads on its platform. Demand that Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook team shut down disinformation on their platform, not the advocates who are trying to uncover it. https://actionnetwork.org//facebook-stop-covering-for-disi
Fordham law professor Zephyr Teachout, who has long advocated for breaking up Big Tech monopolies, says the Justice Department case against Google is an incredibly important lawsuit that should be the start of a wave of legal and legislative action to tackle this incredible democratic crisis we have of Big Tech really becoming a form of private, for-profit government that is taking over so many parts of our lives.
The socialist MAS party in Bolivia is set to retake power after a resounding victory in last week's presidential election. Leonardo Flores, who served as an election observer for CodePink, calls it "a blow against neoliberalism and fascism" in Bolivia.
The rise in disinformation targeting communities of color in 2020 is a direct threat to the sustainability of our democracy, and to communities’ access to accurate information that could save lives. Lawyers say they can't find the parents of 545 migrant children separated by Trump administration! ...approximately two-thirds of those parents were deported to Central America without their children, according to a filing from the ACLU on Tuesday.
Tens of millions of Americans have already cast their votes and millions more have made their own plans to vote as well as plans to mobilize their families, friends, neighbors, and communities. In case you hadn’t heard, this election is an extra-big deal. Anti-democratic forces are on the march. This election is not just about which candidates win, it is about the continuity of our (imperfect but irreplaceable) democratic institutions. There are a lot of great election resources for people to use this year. We have compiled some of them for you and anyone you are helping to vote. https://globalexchange.org/defenddemocracy/
Much respect to the people of Bolivia for reversing last year’s US-backed coup at the ballot box yesterday. After almost a year of a racist & violent regime that illegitimately took power in last year’s coup, the Bolivian people have spoken loud and clear. We demand that the US and the OAS be held to account for their roles creating the narrative that enabled last year’s coup and the massacres that followed.... Our solidarity with the Bolivian people who endured almost a year of the racist repressive US-backed regime and went to the polls yesterday to make clear that they are the authors of their own future.
