So glad to see this from our County Bar President! An Important Message from the President of the San Bernardino County Bar Association As an individual, I believe the tragic and unfortunate deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor is proof that systemic racism and injustice continue to plague our nation. I was shocked when I first heard what happened to Breonna Taylor, I was angered when I heard what happened to Ahmaud Arbery, and I was repulsed when I saw G...eorge Floyd handcuffed, lying on the ground, gasping for air. While these cases have garnered significant media attention, just imagine the countless incidents of bigotry and racial discrimination that were not reported, recorded, or blasted through a newswire. As stated by former President George Bush, It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country. The Board of Directors for the San Bernardino County Bar Association unanimously supports publication of the following statement: We must stand against any form of injustice. We are officers of the court, which means we have a duty to support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California. Every person in this country deserves dignity and respect irrespective of their race, ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual orientation, religious background, or immigration status. So I implore all members of the San Bernardino County Bar Association to embed our legal system with trust and fairness, which means we cannot turn a blind-eye or be cavalier when we see fundamental liberties infringed upon. To the contrary, People of power, privilege, and moral conscience must stand up and say ‘no more’ to a racially discriminatory police and justice system, immoral economic disparities between whites and blacks, and government actions that undermine our unified democracy. We are responsible for creating a world of peace and equality for ourselves and future generations. (Statement from Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, June 3, 2020) Eugene Kim, President, and the Board of Directors for the San Bernardino County Bar Association
