The 1799 Draped Bust Dollar is a terrific type coin for collectors, and not just because it offers some of the most accessible specimens for its series. Additionally, there are several widely recognized and collected varieties of the 1799 Dollar, including the 1799 Irregular Date 15 Stars, 1799 Irregular Strike 15 Reverse Stars, 1799 Obverse Stars 8X5, 1799/8 13 Reverse Stars (seen here), and 1799 Irregular Date 13 Stars.
Certified as Genuine - XF Details, a coin like this, most likely from the Agra Mint, the capital of the Mughal Empire, is incredibly special. It tells the history of the region with its great diversity in religions, peoples, and rich history. It's believed that only three examples are known in silver for the Rama and Sita design coins.
Why is there a lone L on most Indian Cents and what does it mean? Are Indian Cents with an L worth more than those without? Because the L, signifying James B. Longacre, became a standard part of the design, the value of most Indian Cents is unaffected by the presence of the that lone letter, that is, except for Proof examples.
While the New Orleans Mint’s sole task during most of its years of operation was to produce United States coinage, there was one exception: the Mexico 1907 20 Centavos coin. The contract to produce Mexican coinage began at the United States Mint in 1906 with the production of 1906-dated silver 50 Centavos struck in San Francisco and 1906-dated 5 and 10 Pesos gold coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint.
The dollar coin is Australia’s most popular series, and these pieces caused quite the hunting frenzy upon release. Struck with the reverse of a dollar coin but the obverse of a 10 cent piece, this dollar coin mule became a modern classic when it was discovered in late 2000. When the coin is pressed, the gap between the collar and the die creates an outer rim. These appear as a pair of concentric circles on the obverse making this an easily identifiable error. The number of mule dollars released into circulation is not known, but numismatic experts estimate that there are no more than 20,000 pieces available, most in circulated grades.
