Congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Tan as he was recently awarded a Big Data Grant by the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, Inc. The grant will support Dr. Tan's research as he uses IRIS Registry data to better understand if starting immunomodulatory therapy in children newly diagnosed with uveitis is effective and can reduce complications. The ideal frequency of eye exams will depend on a patient’s age and risk factors. We recommend that parents bring children in for their first eye exam at around six months of age, again around their third birthday, and once more before first grade. These early childhood eye exams are essential for catching, diagnosing, and treating any vision problems they may have before they have a chance to interfere with their learning. . After that, in most cases, we would recommend an eye exam every other year up until age 60. For patients age 60 and up, we’d like to see you every year. However, your case might be different, and we can determine how often to set those appointments when we see you!

Dry eye syndrome occurs when the eye either cannot produce enough tears or produces poor quality tears. Symptoms of dry eye syndrome generally include a feeling of dryness, redness, the feeling that something is in your eye, and pain in the eye. Mild to moderate dry eye symptoms can usually be managed with over-the-counter lubricating eye drops. A doctor should treat severe dry eye syndrome cases because prolonged dryness can cause more serious problems over a long time. .
