Letha started Oparc in 2018. Before COVID-19 she would go to work every day, go out in the community, buy lunch and socialize with her friends. One thing Letha loved to do was go to the mall or any store of her choosing and go shopping. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Letha has learned to make adjustments to her everyday life and has been doing very well. She states she has been exercising more and going on walks to stay healthy. She mentioned how excited she was to be l...osing weight and how the walks are helping her during this time of COVID-19. Letha understands the precaution needed to stay safe and keeps her distance. With the help of staff she found a new love for writing which helps her stay busy. She also enjoys working on her weekly packets that are dropped off at her house and likes working on word search puzzles as well. Letha cannot wait to return to program to see her friends but says until its safe she will continue with her remote services she’s currently receiving. #OPARC continues to support the individuals we serve with at home visits and a variety of remote trainings and zoom meetings during this pandemic. #OPARC2020 #weareessential #remotesupport #storiesfromhome #covid19

#OPARC continues to support the individuals we serve with at home visits during this pandemic...and we never forget a birthday! Each month the staff put together gift bags, treats, balloons and make signs to make each individual feel important on their special day. They plot and plan to make each drive by celebration a happy and fun experience. #OPARC2020 #storiesfromhome #remotesupport #weareessential #covid19

People with disabilities and those who support them cannot be left behind. At OPARC, our staff continues to provide remote services to the individuals we support, and have been since March 17th. This Progress at a Glance page highlights all the remote services throughout the month of August so you can see a breakdown of all the supports our managers and direct support professionals have been providing. The page details the number of outreach calls, virtual trainings, indi...viduals supported, class attendance and at home visits for this past August, with similar contacts for each month. The critical needs of people with disabilities, their families, and the direct support professional (DSP) workforce is essential. #OPARC continues to be a safe and trusted resource for many, we are essential. #weareessential #remotesupport #covid19 #OPARC2

Registration for OPARC’s first ever Virtual Turkey Trot is Now Open! We are calling on you to lace up your sneakers and help raise money for OPARC! Those who register before Oct. 18 will receive their own aluminum OPARC water bottle, perfect for staying hydrated during those 3.1 miles. ... To Register: http://www.oparc.org/event/virtual-turkey-trot-2020/ After you register, there will be a link to OPARC’s Just Giving event site where you can create your page and start fundraising. We will send you a Turkey Trot Toolkit that will help you share OPARC’s message easily and inspire your online communities to support a mission you care about! Please consider becoming the captain of a team or participating on your own. Creating your online fundraising page is easy-peasy. Here’s how it works: Turkey Trot participants form teams and raise funds online from family and friends to support OPARC’s great work. Then, we run, walk, bike, skateboard or otherwise cover 3.1 miles safely in our own neighborhoods or special walking places during the week of November 9-15, 2020. Each registrant will receive a T-shirt and swag bag (not fancy) so they can show off their OPARC pride and send photos and videos of their trotting adventure to us. We will share images and video online during event week and beyond. Teams can be formed with those in your household and/or with friends and family who live far away. There will be a fun online Awards Ceremony on Dec. 3 (National Disability Day) with prizes for teams with best Quaran-Team name, highest $$ raised, most creative facemask design and more. Like so many in our community and in the world, OPARC has experienced significant hardship. Please register today to be a part of a fun event knowing that your participation and money raised will help transform the lives of adults with disabilities. We can’t do this important work without your support. #OPARCturkeytrot2020 #OPARC #fundraiser

Madeline has been with OPARC for five years. Over the course of this time she has learned many coping and life skills that have helped her meet her goals...and she continues to make new ones. Due to COVID19, Madeline has not been able to come to program. The support staff at OPARC continues to reach out via phone calls, video calls, zoom classes and home visits. These remote services are helping Madeline cope with not coming to program. We will continue to provide support to Madeline and the individuals we serve and look forward to the day we we can all safely return to our programs. #OPARC2020 #storiesfromhome #remotesupport #weareessential #covid19
