Lots of churches are land-rich and cash-poor, but also interested in sticking around and serving their communities. That’s the primary reason why so many congregations are attracted to this concept. It’s a win-win on multiple fronts. Churches are uniquely positioned to help solve the affordable housing crisis with land they own, often located in the middle of residential areas. https://reasonstobecheerful.world/church-land-affordable-h/ Reasons to be Cheerful

Studies show that housing insecurity creates chronic health disparities that impact how well a person lives, and for how long. These health impacts fall disproportionately on low-income people and people of color, exacerbating the already disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 on these communities. Stable, safe, and affordable housing, as well as shelter-in-place opportunities, are some of the housing justice solutions we are working toward. This May is #AffordableHousingMonth and your voice can make a real difference. Add your name now to join the growing movement for housing justice: https://bit.ly/3xOlEfQ

Let’s keep in mind there’s a whole segment of the housing market that won’t see a big change in rent. I don’t really think remote work does much for people who are overcrowded, where they were already spending 50% of their income on rent. CalMatters reports that the long-term implications of remote work for housing will likely benefit higher-earning workers and hurt lower income Californians. I always ask the developer, would you live there when it’s done? Are you going to buy one of those homes?" The San Francisco Chronicle reports that The Richmond City Council has greenlighted plans to partially clean a toxic site polluted with more than 100 chemicals and build up to 4,000 residential units and a 20,000-square-foot grocery store. Would you live in a house built on a toxic site?
