Tuesday was the shareholder meeting and today Tesla released the vote count. We are pleased to know that 27% of shareholders voted for the Nia resolution. Given that the CEO owns 19% and many board members and executives also own considerable shares (all of which vote in alignment with the board) we are encouraged. There is more work to do to bring attention to ending forced arbitration in support of a positive and inclusive company culture, and we are well on our way.

Reduce the Costs of Jail Phone Calls and Commissary Items: SB 555 caps the cost of jail calls at 5 cents per-minute, and video communications at 25 cents per-minute, and reduces markups on jail commissary items. This will make communication, food and basic hygiene items more affordable for people incarcerated in California county jails and juvenile facilities. Promote Successful Reentry, Public Safety and Economic Stability: The greatest indicator of an incarcerated person’s successful reentry is their ability to remain connected to their loved ones and community on the outside. Making these goods and services affordable for incarcerated people keeps them connected, healthy, and ready to return to their community. End Predatory Practices: SB 555 ends price gouging and unfair fees for incarcerated people and their loved ones. These fees frequently cause families impacted by incarceration to go into debt, worsening cycles of poverty which disproportionately impact people of color. It will also ensure any money in local Incarcerated People’s Welfare funds are spent solely for the benefit of incarcerated people.

We have a shareholder resolution on the ballot at #Tesla September 22nd. While we love the innovation and renewable energy plays, we have concerns about fair and equitable company culture. As Meredith puts it, "Tesla is the fur coat of the 1980's: a beautiful luxury item that people will be embarrassed to own if they find out what...'s involved at the firm."
