"This year has been difficult for many. Some of us lost our loved ones, our spouses may have lost jobs and families suffered economic setbacks, and some have di...rectly battled the COVID-19 enemy. Many families have been forced to contend with closed or virtual schools, and/or child care facilities closing all of these directly impact our workforce, are critical to our operations, and further complicate how we can best support the mission of our individual commands. Together we felt and faced the pain of systemic issues of injustice and inequality. This is something we will continue to work on as a Navy, to leverage the great work of RADM Alvin Holsey, Force Master Chief Huben Phillips and Task Force One Navy as well as the continuing everyday dialogue on our deckplates. This effort does not end with 2020, and in fact *must* be perennial to be effective. I could not be more proud of our Navy, and the resilience our Sailors have demonstrated through all of the challenges we faced. As we look to the new year, we know there is hope. In unprecedented fashion, diverse sectors of science and industry collaborated around the world to develop multiple effective COVID vaccinations; now in the earliest stages of distribution, we can once again envision returning to normal operations. That said, we must remain vigilant until it is safe to relax the precautionary measures that have been put in place to mitigate the spread. If we do so, 2021 will end in a far better place because of these efforts, and our nation will be better served as a result. Our Navy has been and will remain strong, in 2021 and far into the future. Hooyah!" -MCPON Russell Smith

Let's stop the spread. Please stay home as much as possible, wear face coverings, maintain six-feet of physical distancing, and wash your hands frequently.

Please note the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society has modified its hours of operation. Since April, the Ventura NMCRS office has assisted 152 clients and disbursed over $138,000 in COVID relief funds. Thank you.

Please use caution if you are spending time along the coast. Several large, long period west to northwest swells will push through the coastal waters through th...e weekend into much of next week, bringing high surf and dangerous rip currents to many west and northwest facing beaches. High Surf Advisories are in effect with waves 12 to 18 feet for the Central Coast and 5 to 10 feet south of Pt Conception through Sunday night. A larger surf event is likely to move into the area Monday night and Tuesday when damaging surf heights up to 20 feet or greater will be possible for the Central Coast. Tide levels are average and will not be too significant, but there could still be minor coastal flooding due to long period swells and sneaker waves pushing well up the beach toward low-lying walking paths and parking lots, especially along the Central Coast. Dangerous rip currents are expected and swimmers should remain out of the water. Be sure to stay off rock walls and jetties. Never turn your back to the ocean or be unaware of larger wave sets approaching the surf zone. www.weather.gov/lox/
