Monday Motivation We hope you enjoyed your weekend and are feeling refreshed and ready for the week ahead. For today’s Monday Motivation, we wanted to share a quote we love by Henry Ford. Ford believed that one’s beliefs regarding their abilities determined their likelihood to succeed or fail. Ford knew, and we agree, that mindset is a powerful thing! Ford believed the language we use is a kind of self-prophecy. His quote demonstrates how one’s attitude and self-talk can in...fluence likelihood of success or failure in life. This quote is an excellent reminder of the power in our own words. The stories we tell ourselves through self-talk are valuable for either motivating us or holding us back. Using I can or I choose to language are positive, actionable phases that promote confidence and progress. The phrase I can’t is limiting language that instills doubt and may keep you from moving forward in the direction of your goals. Here at The Natural Alternative, we understand that it’s not possible to be 100% positive all the time because life is messy, nobody is perfect, and negative self-talk can easily sneak into our headspace when we are not mindful. Wednesday Wisdom American Family Physician reports 75% of Americans are not meeting the daily recommended value for magnesium (1). Increasing magnesium intake can be achieved through a nutritious diet, lifestyle changes, and quality supplements. As always, food first! Magnesium can be found in many plant and animal food sources. Animal foods conta...ining magnesium include chicken, beef, halibut, salmon, and plain yogurt. Plant foods rich in magnesium include kale, chard, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, almonds, avocados, and beans. Lifestyle also plays a big part in maintaining adequate magnesium levels. When we are chronically stressed or anxious, magnesium concentrations can be decreased in the body. While at the same time, one of magnesium’s crucial roles is to regulate our body’s response to stress, anxiety, and depression. Therefore, it’s easy to end up in a vicious cycle where magnesium levels are depleted (from chronic stress), and the body now has a decreased ability to regulate the affects of that stress in the body (due to decreased magnesium concentrations). The same can be true for depression.
